Princess Leia Organa Sings the Songs of Life Day |
After Leia spouts her hippie nonsense, she suddenly and unexpectedly bursts into song. Like the previous song in the cantina, the tune is based vaguely on a piece of music from the movie soundtrack. In this case it's the main theme. The words to the song are as follows:
We celebrate a day of peace.
A day of harmony.
A day of joy we can all share together joyously.
A day that takes us through the darkness.
A day that leads us into night.
A day that makes us want to celebrate the light.
A day that brings the promise that one day,
We'll be free to live, to laugh, to dream, to grow,
To trust, to love, to be.
Carrie Fisher's singing performance lacks the luster of Bea Arthur's. Throughout this entire special, Carrie Fisher appears to have been drugged, and in no scene is it more evident than this final number. Her eyes are pointing in different directions while she hits one sour note after another.
The phrase "don't give up your day job" springs to mind.
While she is singing, the camera pans to show pained looks on Han and Luke's faces. Undoubtedly, we are seeing Harrison Ford and Mark Hammill wondering about their careers.
