the belief that your commitment to remain upstanding citizens will be reinforced. It is required viewing for all members of the Imperial forces." A woman then announces, "Time now for life on Tatooine. Brought to viewers everywhere in the hope that our own lives may be uplifted by the comparison and enriched with the gratitude of relief. This transmission is unrehearsed and unedited and is hereby begun without further comment as to its lack of moral value."
It becomes very clear that we are watching a reality television program about Tatooine. After watching a seemingly endless number of shots from the Mos Eisley Cantina we see Ackmena (Bea Arthur), the owner of the cantina. She interrupts some patrons to insult them about how cheap they are and we're treated to some fairly typical (most likely ad-libbed) Bea Arthur insult humor.
He drinks by pouring beverages into an open hole in his head? Fantastic!
A man, Krelman, comes up to the bar and she is exceedingly rude to him. She goes over to another patron, an Ithorian, and seems to be rather pleasant. Then she pats the patron on the head. I'm not certain how they do things on Tatooine, but such things on Earth would be considered to be highly demeaning. When is the last time you ordered a drink at a bar and the bartender patted you on the head? Is it because he was a weird looking race? Can you imagine the fervor if a bartender patted an Irish man on the head because he thought the Irish were a cute race?
"There's a good sentient being."
It turns out that Krelman is in love with Ackmena because she said, "Come back soon, I'll be waiting." Krelman follows her around and tells her he loves here, and this goes on for about five minutes. Let me spare you the agony of watching this scene by giving you the punch line now: The joke is that, at the end, she says the same thing to someone else and he realizes she says that to EVERYONE! ZING!
"You must be that little Rodian brat I taught a lesson to all those years ago."
It turns out the Imperial troops on Kashyyyk are still watching this just as the Imperial officer (from earlier) appears on-screen to announce a curfew for the entire Tatooine system. Ackmena tells everyone they have to leave because of the curfew, but they are all reluctant. She agrees to one more drink for the band, but starts telling customers to leave. They all refuse. Someone pulls a gun on her, then everyone starts banging their glasses on their tables. Then she agrees to one more round.
What happens next is beyond belief!
