Was TPM really that bad? Yes, it was. Period.
Could you enjoy the PT if you never watched one of the OT movies? Yes, you could. But, you see: Star Wars was about Luke, Vader, Han, Leia & Chewie long before Qui Gong even appeared. The lightsaber duells may be better choreographed then the ones in the OT. But I agree with some of the other posters: in the OT they look more menacing and dangerous. Plus, in the OT, things where seldom black and white. The duells where always a personal thing, and that was what made them interesting.
And talking about eye candy: that may be a value for a computer game. But in a movie, I want to be entertained by conflicts and drama of the characters. That's why the OT is classic. -

Agreed, Aquaman.
But I think the idea of Qui Gon being the 'real' Obi-Wan character is quite satisfying. It would have made better movies. Plus a romance thrown in the mix. (But not one that was as pointless as the Ani/Padme thingy.) It would have made for a character driven story, not for a fx driven one...
God idea, Anton. At least from my point of view -

Yeah, well...as far as I know, Lucas is supporting this kind of film making. Using the new cheap technologie to make the movies and the net to supply them. I bet he'd like the idea of a fan driven remake.
I'd love to read your screenplays, Curtis.
And just in case you need a bit aged, oversized Obi-Wan Kenobi who still can wield a sword...gimme a call. I'd love to audition. -
In Topic: Why ROTS is considered the best of the PT?

Ok, first of all...I have to point out that I liked the FIRST TWENTY MINUTES of RotS. It's not that I think that it is a good Star Wars movie.
And about melting pits...yeah, I remember something from an earlier draft too. (Or a novelisation (sp?)maybe.)
Seems like the Flanelled One changed his mind. Again. So much for "I had the whole backstory in mind when I shot Star Wars in '77".
Oh, and about bashing the first Star Trek movie. I don't think it's hard. I mean, a lot of people bashed that movie and you really had to be a hard core fan to enjoy it. Just like your average gusher, you know.
But its a perfect example of what happens when you change the majority of a movie from story to effects. You'll create a rather boring movie.
(In defence of Captain James Tiberius Kirk: I am not sure if this was intended. Unlike some other movie I could name...)
