Why do people use Karma meters in their games? This is why I object to the idea of religion and support the idea of kick starting scientific cults instead. That way, morals can evolve and there would be justifications for it.

Ah yes, misspelling "metre". Possibly a much more grievous sin than misspelling "in".
Snarkiness aside, it would be interesting to see a game forsake the traditional binary "good-evil" system in favour of a hideously complex beast based on actual Personality Psychology theories. I wonder what sort of special prize you'd get for finishing with full Neuroticism.

The thing is, that if you do that, you'll only end up in depressing mediocrity (read: reality). They need extremes to sell, and neutrality or variations of "30% good, 60% evil, 10% failure at math" simply don't provide much of a target there.

If we're being picky, the grammar and construction of that sentence is fucking awful.
The problem with a morality system is thus: It's a cheap way of getting extra play time out of a game. They'd rather say "You can play this game any way you like!" (which means "you can play it twice") than "We couldn't be fucked making one decent, coherent story, so we decided to make a branching one with two story arcs, neither of which are particularly different or exciting, but you won't notice because you'll be blinded by ALL THE MORALITY. Hopefully."

What are you talking about? metre is a measurement on length, meters are measuring instruments, some games measure your actions good or evil, thus morality meters
