Too old to train... the learning curve.

this whole "too old" crap that keeps popping up (as, let's face, a poor excuse for a tie in and defeating attempt at consistency) is by far the most implausible notion.
let's look at the track record...
Luke Skywalker
commenced training: age 21 (aprox)
result: defeated Darth Vader/Anikan
Anikan Skywalker (AKA Darth Vader, Annie)
commenced training: age 11
result: defeated room of younglings
the Younglings
commenced training: age 4
result: wiped out.
well, i think the results speak for themselves there...

Maybe GL should have made a comedy prior to making the PT, as he did prior to Ep.4, and he coulda got the Luney Tunes scenarios out of his system, and focused on writing.

I could understand that Luke was perhaps a bit too old. BUt saying this about "Annie" at the age of eleven was plain stupid. Even Russian ballerinas still can be accepted for training at the age of eleven. Really, if it was the young age for apprentices they wanted, why not just get the Jedi to breed the little sods?

Anyway, the proper age to begin training is actually 6 months if I'm not mistaken. It makes you wonder just how you can train an infant that young...

Well, not anymore it doesn't.
"And the Evil that was vanquished shall rise anew. Wrapped in the guise of man shall he walk amongst the innocent and Terror shall consume they that dwell upon the Earth. The skies will rain fire. The seas shall become as blood. The righteous shall fall before the wicked! And all creation shall tremble before the burning standards of Hell!" - Mephisto

Oops! I forgot to be a high brow posturing elitist.
Down with GL! Boo Jar Jar! Hiss! My Star Wars is cooler than your Star Wars! I'm infinitely wise and assert my individuality by fearlessly marching along with mob mentality! I sure hope I can get a date this time for this year's Star Wars convention!

what is anyone going to learn at 6 months?
how does a parent discearn high force potential at 6 months?
oh yeah that's right...
9D9 & Sleezebaggano Medical Center
Dr.Porkins: Alright, Mrs Windu... we've immunized your son against polio, the flu, and bantha fever, also blood test revealed your son is clear from and disease, his blood type is AB and he he has a ludicrously high level of medichlorines.
Mrs.Windu: oh? What doea that mean?
Dr.Porkins: that means he's perfectly healthy, but some little green guy from the jedi temple has already collected him and you won't be seeing him again as long as you live. Here's some fertility drugs, however, and good luck with the next one.

We know that, but look how Luke turned out. Now he may have been some kind of Jedi paragon or something, but it seems his age wasn't too much of a barrier to his doing well.

it completeley goes against everything to such an extent...
this really is the ultimate proof that Lucas completely misinterpreted the echange of dialogue in ESB. "He is too old. Yes, too old to begin the training." this comes at the end of a list of things and is Yoda's last excuse to get out of taking him on. reviewing the PT if it were true cannon, it should have been the first point.
"This one a long time have I watched. All his life has he looked away... to the future, to the horizon. Never his mind on where he was. Hmm? What he was doing. Hmph. Adventure. Heh! Excitement. Heh! A Jedi craves not these things."
This one a long time i have watched?
Why would he even let Obiwan tell luke to swing on by... if 6months was the admission age. and anikan turned out so horrible starting at 9yrs.
the focus on off hand remarks from the PT truley lead one to believe that Lucas participation into what made the OT great was minimal at best.
the script for ESB says:
Written by Lawrence Kasdan and Leigh Brackett
From a story by George Lucas
george just came up with the basic plot.
the meat of this sandwich was served by others, and poorly reproduced by lucas later because he clearly doesn't get it...
and this whole 'age' thing with training is further proof that GL is not a genius, he doesn't understand his source material for which he claims full credit, and demands complete controll to whatever end!!!
this is why the PT sucks...
and on such a deeply tragic level...
if anyone can read through all this and still feel nothing but devotion to those peices of crap i truley feel dorry for them.

That is why the PT and OT will always be two separate trilogies and not one cohesive story. Let's just say they both got the name STAR WARS by accident, sort of like the two completely different Mask films. One a Jim Carrey comedy, and the other a drama about a boy with a disfigured face.

Here are some lines from ESB at Dagobah:
"It's too big"
"You ask the impossible"
"Look at me, judge me by my size do you?"
"I .. I don't believe it"
"That is why you failed"
Luke was pretty set in his ways of thinking, and was the fool for it too. He has been using the Force for awhile now, but still didn't understand it very well. That, is what I believe the too old line was about, even though Yoda sounded like he was just making an excuse. Seriously, in considering training Luke, the worst that could happen would either be Luke dies, or he becomes a Sith. When it comes down to it, the galaxy doesn't end up that much worse off. Especially because of the Rule of two Sith. Somebody would have to end up dead. If the Emporer dies, there goes the manipulative, backstabbing, intelligent mastermind villian. If Vader dies, there goes the quite experienced Sith Lord and very powerful warior. If Luke dies, than you are back to square one.
As a matter of fact, it might have even worked out somewhat favorably if Luke became a Sith. Worst case senerio is that he kills Vader. Luke may be more powerful, but he's no Vader. Best case senario. Palpatine dies and the Empire is left without a capable leader. Because of internal strife, the Empire tears itself apart. Training Luke is a win-win senario, specifically because of the Rule of two Sith. No matter what happens, there is a favorable outcome. Now if that doesn't change your opinion about that stupid rule than maybe this will help.
coimical fun

of course he would be supprised by all that.
but if the age thing had really been the issue, it would have been the first thing that yoda brought up, and he would have dwealt on it.
if six months is the training age, then letting luke train would be like letting a 4 year old into a pornographic snuff film.

Man, i miss the TPM forum. I guess we've come to the realization that the damage has been done and we're survivors moreso now than movie-goers.
