A web portal... for me! What are YOU doing here?

The other day I was surfing the internet and things had gone south rather fast. Some days are better than others and on this day I found myself on the homepage for Texas Comptroller of Public Accountants.

The page is harmless enough but I was rather taken aback by the sheer magnitude of the picture I found there:

I thought that that was a bit much. I'm sure it's an important job and I'm sure that all the public accountants in Texas look up to the woman and gaze upon her with a special blend of awe and fear but is a picture of this size really necessary? 250 x 339 pixels!

Out of curiosity I decided to visit the sites for the Texas State officials, the big ones like the Governor, Lt. Governor, etc. The data I found was more than a little shocking ...

Texas State Officer & Picture Size
Office
Picture Size
Governor 150 x 175
Lt. Governor 150 x 200
Attorney General 160 x 207
Comptroller of Public Accountants 250 x 339
Secretary of State 178 x 206 *
State Auditor (none)
* includes picture of the State House

That's right. The Comptroller of Public Accountants had the largest picture by a long shot! Even the Governor had a smaller picture than our friend the Comptroller. His picture was actually the smallest displaying a level of modesty one rarely finds in a politician.

After I'd finished this chore I paused to admire the work I had done in compiling this information. Then I took one more visit to the Comptroller's site and noticed something new. I noticed that there was a link underneath the picture that said "Click for larger picture". How had I missed that? Larger?

My hands were shaking as I moved my cursor over to the link and clicked on it. What I saw next blew my mind. A monstrous picture filled my screen. I was not looking at a larger picture of the Texas Comptroller, I was looking at the largest picture I'd ever seen. Off on the right hand side of my computer screen was a small patch of gray hair. I was looking at the upper leftmost portion of a gigantic tribute to the Texas Comptroller of Public Accountants--an horrific tribute to this obviously amazing woman.

Here is small sample from that picture in actual size. You can click on the eyes to link to the actual picture. It will take you to the Comptroller website as I just don't have the server space to host a picture of that magnitude.

I began trying to play out all of the situations in my mind that would require a picture of the Texas Comptroller of Public Accountants of that size to be so readily available! Was it common practice in Texas to print out giant posters of their state comptroller to pay tribute to them? I don't know, I'm not from Texas. If you're from Texas and can explain this to me then please email me and do so.

Texas State Officer & Picture Size (Revised)

Lt. Governor 150 x 200
Attorney General 160 x 207
Comptroller of Public Accountants 1500 x 2000

State Auditor (none)

After staring in awe at the picture for a good hour or so I decided the appropriate thing would be to save it as my Windows desktop wallpaper. The funny thing was that in order to do so I actually had to considerably shrink the picture in size. The result? A breathtaking Windows desktop that warms my heart each time my computer boots up.

Don't worry, friend, I am one to share my wealth. Enjoy.
