I really think you guys should check this out. It looks better than the 2004 DVDs. It takes the best things of the Special Editions, removes some of the crap, and improves the effects. It puts in some things from the original Star Wars (Beru's original voice, Han shoots first, etc). It really looks and sounds great.
Sure, a few things I disagree with (I liked Vader's red eyes, I liked the music that played as Obi-Wan made his noble sacrifice, and I liked the shot of Tarkin right before the Death Star blew), but I can live with those things. For the most part he redid the special effects, removing gaffes, and tweaking things here and there. He finished what Lucas started and did a very thorough job. Not bad for an amateur editor with 2 years of his spare time and consumer tools! He toned down the slapstick additions (the Jabba scene is even relegated to the cutting room floor) that Lucas made in 1997 and fixed the horrible color and sound gaffes introduced in 2004.
The new things, just are totally awesome, like the new, extended Yavin battle, the Death Star introduction, the Alderaan explosion, etc. The Cantina aliens look much more lifelike.
Yeah, I know, I own the original editions and nothing can ever replace them (until somebody releases a fully restored OOT that is!), but this totally blows both Special Editions out of the water for me!
Anyway, enough gushing, here are the shots. They are unmodified, anamorphic widescreen, saved in high quality to give you a better idea of what you see. Taken with powerDVD on my pc.
And yes, that is my handle in the credits, and no, that's not the only reason I like it.
If you need descriptions of what's happening in any of the shots, let me know.
