Soft-drink maker wants to put turkey in your straw — gravy, too
By Greg Lamm
Seattle Times staff reporter

It's just what the belly craves for Thanksgiving, a refreshing bottle of ... turkey-and-gravy soda.

Sounds yummy, doesn't it?

Seattle-based Jones Soda Co. — which brought you WhoopAss energy drink, blue bubble gum and even canned-ham and fish-taco drinks — plans to test market its poultry-inspired beverage in Washington and Michigan beginning next week.

Just in time for the holiday, it's the niche bottler's latest stab at carving out a piece of the multibillion-dollar soft-drink and sports-beverage market.

"We can't compete with Coke and Pepsi. We have to be original. Turkey and gravy is original," said Peter van Stolk, the company's founder and president.

I have an idea. How about they kill some fish and leave them to rot in a bucket of water for a few weeks, then can the water and sell it?

Actually it might not taste that bad. Remember chips that tasted like fries and gravy? Not too bad. Then again, the drink would probably taste better if you could heat it up or something...

I don't know. I think the whole carbonation thing could be a new movement in dinner meals. I figure they'll probably start carbonating cranberry sauce, you know like that sparkling jello, and then they'll move on to carbonated gravy that sort of foams over your turkey when you pour it. I think the tingle of carbonation could become something as common place as spice in our daily lives.

Oh, they carbonated it? Nevermind then. I was hoping it would be kinda of like drinking gravy from a can or something... but its a thinner liquid, you know?

Of all meat products, why turkey!? I mean, a steak soda sounds a bit less revolting.

but that's besides the point. huh.gif

When they were doing a survey (or whatever they do) what kind of people checked "turkey" under the "What flavour of pop sounds most delicious?" question?

I want some Pork Soda! Then we could sit around drinking pork soda and listening to Primus*.

I think the soft drink version of turkey and gravy is the first among many steps towards the movie/tv inspired pills that will eventually replace meals made from all the animals and plants that man so happily and eagerly eradicates. I can't wait to just buy my holiday meal pill pack featuring all those wholesome dinners we know and love.
