LOTR would be NOTHING without Mr.Jackson.
He brought Middle Earth to life
and he should at least oversee any major decisions.
If i were new line i would just give the man what he wants
it's not like he'll go mad with power.
And until i'm proven wrong i will stand by my statements.
except for the mad with power one cuz it happens.

And I'm not sure the Lord of the Rings would be nothing without Mr Jackson, it's more that Jackson would be nothing without Lord of the Rings. Don't you remebemr the panic when the rumours started that the director of "Bad Taste", "Meet the Feebles" and "Brain Dead" was going to direct the trilogy? Everybody thought he couldn't possibly do it. Now everyone thinks that he is the only person on earth who won't screw up The Hobbit. What's with that?
Doesn't anybody remember the top viewed, (and most replied to) topic in the Movie Theater section of this website? It's "ROTK EE sucks compared with FOTR" , and it consists of everybody basically lamententing the fact that the quality of the trilogy decreased with each installment, and blasting Jackson for totally blowing it.
Let someone else have a go at The Hobbit. Maybe it will be an improvement. I can already imagine Jackson's belching and dribbling dwarves at the unexpected party, chipping the glasses and cracking the plates, and falling all over themselves as they clear Bilbo's table. Jackson gave the trilongy a great overall look and feel, but you know whoever comes next is going to copy that anyway, so what difference does it make who will do it.

azerty, It makes all the difference.
there is no way to tell if the person
who picks the movie up will totally agree with Jackson's vision.
Unless they actually say it.
I can think of a few directors that woud give it a different feel.
Bryan Singer: play largerly on character development
Sofia Coppola: give the film a whismical touch
Tim Burton: make the film dark and eerie
Quentin Tarentino :blood everywhere
so really i think there is only one man to trust.

Get real, none of those directors, save maybe Singer, maybe! Would want to touch the product. You could just as well go...
Sam Raimi: Has his protagonist tortured, tormented, get beat up and get the girl.
Brett Ratner: Has people get beat up a lot and learn the lesson of friendship and trust.
Roman Polanski: Homosexual vampires that are tall and blonde
And so on and so on and so on.

Icey I was just trying to prove a point
(as did you very nicely might i add)
But 'getting real',
honestly, who do you have in mind to direct?
cuz i can't think of any...
maybe James Cameron
or Steven Spielberg
but really who?
might as well keep the theme
of ridiculous going and add GL
P.S.
Brett Ratner: Has people get beat up a lot and learn the lesson of friendship and trust.
Roman Polanski: Homosexual vampires that are tall and blonde
Those were freaking Hilarious!

But totally accurate, save the Polanski one.
But reading back on that, doesn't the Hobbit sound JUST LIKE RATNER!? It's like Ratner has been spending all of his career working towards directing the Hobbit.
Random thought, as it passed through my skull, I've been getting my hands on Linklater's work after seeing A Scanner Darkly a few moons ago. Thankfully my videostore has five flicks, so I went through them, they all seem quite different save Before Sunset/Sunrise. Beyond that they all insist that you bloody listen to what's going on and make an effort to get the characters. He'd never be arsed to do the Hobbit, most likely, but he'd do it quite beautifully, I think.

In all seriousness though, the hobbit has a lighter tone than the trilogy, but I do NOT trust Peter Jackson with all those dwarfs. One thing I WOULD like to see done would be a scene where the White Council raids the fortress in Mirkwood and drives out the necromancer. That was never elaborated on in the books and it should have been since it was the first battle with the ressurected Sauron. Seeing how they wrote Saruman would also be interesting.

Ang Lee didn't direct Weatherman & Pirates of the Caribbean. Gore Verbinski directed Weaterhman and Pirates of the Caribbean. Ang Lee directed Hulk and then Brokeback Mountain.
I'd like a qui-gon jinn please with an obi-wan to go.
