Here's a kinda interesting site that I just found (due to an advertisement on a bill I received). There's WAY more activity on this site than I would have imagined. It found 1,058 bills in my zip code! ohmy.gif

What I don't get is isn't it illegal in the US to "deface" money? How is this site allowed to exist?

I put a few bills in to there a while ago (Ones that I had recieved.. )

Ok in 2001 I did it... and I've gotten zero hits on my 2 bills that I entered. Probably they have been taken out of circulation by now.

is it based on volounteered info, or tracking over the last few decades?

I have a bill at home somewhere, but i brought it over in like 1990.

But I don't think they are actually defacing the money. They are just entering serial numbers and location into a database via the web interface provided. I'm fairly sure that wouldn't be breaking any laws??? unsure.gif

but your supposed to put the website on the bill.. which isn't really defacing it... and I'm not sure there is a law against that.

Yeah but the one I got had an official stamp with the URL for the site on it. It wasn't hand-written, it was stamped on. That's rather fishy. wink.gif

I saw in a marketing magazine, an article on adv. specialties (you know, your company's name printed on caps, shirts, pens and the like- most get thrown away and aren't effective at all) there was an item about the tv series "traffic" sticking removable stickers onto crisp ones and distributing them at a trade show/seminar. (not defacing) not where's george, but worthy of note. It was written up as an effective way of advertising (more bang for the buck) the tv show, airdates and websites. I thought it might have been defacing, so I mention it here.
