Lucas Should Have Made Sequels Instead of Prequels

Of course, the point is moot, because apparently he always wanted to tell the story of Anakin.
But he wouldn't have run into problems with glaring inconsistencies in technology or plotlines or anything else if he had just started fresh.
I don't know whether such movies would match up to the "feel" of the OT, but at least they wouldn't be pissing all over the predecessors. They might still have been bad movies nonetheless, but they would have been forgivably bad.
Ah, what might have been...

I heard that Lucas was planning to do a sequel to the OT a while back, but then I heard he changed his mind. I hope he never does. He's lost any talent he ever had and he would just completely fuck it up again.

Search your feelings...you know it to be true.

Why, why why this facination for the fall of Vader? My theory is that George lacked the imagination to pull off sequels.
I think part of it is just George's enormous hubris. He had written the beginnings of a backstory and just couldn't bear to leave well enough alone.
Vader is much better just being mysterious. That he is Luke's father Anakin is fascinating, but anytime anyone tries to tweak the story of such an iconic figure, they're just flirting with disaster.
I was fine "knowing" from the Star Wars fan grapevine that Obi-Wan had battled Anakin, and Anakin fell into the lava pit and was resurrected as Darth Vader. Even as a kid, I never felt any need to see an entire movie, let alone three, leading up to that fateful event.
And no one needed to see young Anakin saying "Yippeeee!" NO ONE.
Yeah, I tend to agree that Lucas just had no real new ideas. Not to mention that he has no clue what made the OT so classic.

Follow me:
WE know Vader is Annakin. If Lucas' whole plan is to have this generation of fans be surprised by knowing Annakin becomes Vader and Palpatine is the Emperor then there should be more respect to the impact of "Iam your Father!!" in ESB. Thinking Annakin was dead after EPIII and having this new character emerge as a baddass, maybe even at the end of EPIII but not knowing who it is, would be the best. Grow to hate this new bad guy before you feel sorry for him.
Idiots.

I agree on several things you mentioned.
First, the inconsistencies. Not saying there wouldn't be any at all, but I think there'd probably be a whole lot less if the stories didn't have to go "full circle" and "tie into" something that was already established.
Also, though we don't talk about EU novels much, part of why I love reading them is because I feel like I'm moving forward from ANH. There are a couple of the novels I can visualize as movies, and from the way those particular ones were written, I can fathom some SW films with characters other than Luke, Leia, Lando, Han & Chewie.
Just my $0.02

I can accept that Boba Fett and Darth Vader crossed paths at some point prior to the OT, for instance. I can accept that quite a few characters in the OT might have heard mention of Anakin's name without ever having encountered him directly. But when we learn that Anakin was childhood buddies with Greedo and that Anakin built C-3PO and that Boba Fett is the twin brother of all the clone troopers who were the precursors to the Stormtroopers and that Yoda knows Chewbacca and on and on and on, that is just stupid. One coincidence is fine. Five hundred is overkill.
Surely there are any number of unknown characters in the SW universe who have interesting stories of their own.

Another sequel trilogy, eh? Doesn't matter what I say about it. You all will disregard.
