Trust me, you're not alone. U2 is boring. They always have been. Even when they were exciting and political, and not pompous and self-righteous, they were boring.
In the past few months I've seen the following shows:
Death From Above 1979: Amazing live show. They're loud as hell, and the bass will make you tremble involuntarily.
Strapping Young Lad: Also amazing. They're very charismatic and fun, even though their music is so dark and angry. Possibly the single best metal show I've ever been to.
Horrorpops: The closest I've ever been to seeing a psychobilly show. Also charismatic, fun and just generally a good live act.
Buck 65: I was actually given the opportunity to interview him before the show, and he was one of the nicest people I've ever met. More charisma, more fun, etc.
Kid Koala: The single best DJ I have ever seen live. He's unbelievable. Four turntables, lots of recognizable samples, and the weirdest mixes I've ever heard (see: Radiohead vs. Public Enemy, for instance)
Billy Idol: Anyone who's been near me for more than five minutes knows that I adore Billy Idol, so this was guaranteed to be amazing. Unfortunately, Bif Naked opened for him and sucked to death for about 45 minutes.
Wolf Eyes: Wow. That's all I have to say. Wow.
In the coming weeks I'll be seeing Funeral For A Friend, Ted Leo & The Pharmacists, Converge, and some shitty emo/pop punk band called Day Of Contempt (reference point: they recently toured as an opening act for Good Charlotte) that I'm being forced to go see. I may also go to see Underoath on Monday, and The Stills (almost exactly a year after I first saw them here!) on Friday. I don't know yet.
