Alright then. It's been almost two years since I last created something and my fingers have really been itching in all that time - but somehow I just couldn't find back to something that I'd really like to draw.

Depicting young ladies lost most of its touch ever since my girlfriend came around, I pretty much find myself uninterested in intensively studying the shapes of other womenfolk now.
I thought about doing objects or landscapes and started on tracing some plants for practice, but it took me only five minutes to realize that I'd be completely bored out of my mind if I had to go on for another five minutes.

Long story short: Whatever I started drawing, my heart just wasn't in it, and that's simply no way to work.

Finally, I sat down and thought about what's really required to bring back that ol' feeling and eventually came to this conclusion:

My primary focus isn't really to express myself through art (ain't much to express there in the first place). Instead, I simply love to evoke some reactions in others, preferably amicable ones. I don't care so much about what I draw, as long as someone would ultimately say: "Now that's something I could stare at for hours!"

So why not just use that? If you got some idea for a picture done in my style, I'd be glad to hear about it. And then we might work together on realizing it until it looks like something we had in mind or even better than that.

I think it would be pretty neat to get some constructive atmosphere in here where everyone can speak up and add his skills, ideas or other talents to the whole process if he wants to. And of course it doesn't have to circle around what I'm doing - I'm just hoping to get something to keep me busy out of this, but if you'd rather just work with others or fish around for some ideas yourself, then that's more than fine.

Well then, I guess that's about the gist of it. So let me give you an idea of what it is that I've done so far and maybe you'll see some potential in it.

I specialize on special effects of all sorts with digital tools, mainly Photoshop. I can pull a lot of neat tricks with that, but I'm pretty much screwed when it comes to drawing by hand. That's why I require lots of precise references and some studying to finally twist and turn things around until they fit the image I had in my head. I vary between minimalism and detail-overkill, focusing on vectors to create shapes at very high resolutions.

But I guess pictures work better than words.

I'd like to contribute, but I haven't a creative bone in me. Good luck.

Well I wouldn't call the finished product "high art" but it would probably sell and people would enjoy it - I think a cityscape would be pretty cool in your neon-ish line art style (not the filled in stuff). But it might get boring for you to draw.

Something a little more fun but I'm not as sure if it would work, an underwater-scape thing. Like what with the coral and colourful fish, or even the scarier creatures living in deeper waters. It might be a little tough to make sure it stays out of the realm of "cartoony" though.

Oi, that actually sounds really nifty! Underwater... hrrm, wonder why I didn't think of that sooner, the colours really would work well there...

I don't think the outcome would be too cartony since - as usual - I'd be heavily relying on real references before I get to the actual work and my obsession with details would do the rest.

(not the filled in stuff)

Aye, I really don't want to go back there. I could, but it would be more than time consuming and not really worth it in the end, I'd rather just work with the lines and add some effects to them, mostly the good ol' glowy kind.

I didn't really consider a cityscape either until now, but I guess the main problem there would be the straight lines. They just don't work too well, whenever I try it out I start to drift into some kind of technical-drawing style and then I realize that I only really need a 3D modelling program to do that kind of stuff. It looses much of its appeal there. Maybe if I could adjust my style to accommodate for that somehow...

But underwater, now there'd be lots of use for those curved lines...

So let's see, some rocks, some flora, some fauna, maybe even some structures... antique, modern or futuristic, maybe some technological stuff (though that might bring up the problem of the straight lines again) and... underwater colours, lighting, perspectives... alrighty, I'll search around for some images and see if I can get some more ideas and inspiration for a picture like that.

Thanks a lot so far! smile.gif

Atlantis! teehee

I'm glad you liked the idea! I think it would look pretty awesome. The comment about cartoony, yeah the level of detail would pretty much be the deciding factor on cartoony or not. Like, draw a fish or coral with glowy vectors and don't have much detail, it's gonna look cartoony. But add in scrupulous detail and it leaves the realm of cartoon and enters the realm of AWESOME. biggrin.gif
