I'm surprised no one has brought this up in here. Of course, it IS only a rumor, but supposedly from a "reliable source" who has been accurate in other rumors.

"On the balcony of Amidala's apartment, Anakin and Padme discuss their plans for the future, family and their life on Naboo.

Anakin forsees that their child will be a girl and Padme agrees with his him. The couple decide to name her...Leia. "

If this rumor is true, it is the stupidest thing I've ever heard.

1) Would imply that Vader thought he had a daughter rather than a son, and Obi-Wan's comment in ANH about Anakin's saber, "...he always wanted you to have this..." makes no sense.

2) When Vader meets Leia, he ought to be thinking, "Leia...hmmm...that's the name my wife wanted to give our daughter---coincidence?"

3) Why does Vader seem surprised when he learns from Luke that he has a sister.. "Sister... so you have a twin sister..."

This is why the rumor would be stupid.

I agree it's stupid. But not as stupid as the scene and dialogue between Obi-Wan and Dex in the diner.

Especially if he knew she wasn't Bail Organa's own daughter. And if he could sense that she was strong in the Force, as he did with Luke.

4) Why on earth would he forsee that Padme would only have a girl child, rather than twins? This has been mentioned in another thread, actually.

Didn't Chefelf predict that there would be a stupid baby-naming scene in the third episode? I seem to remember him saying something along the lines of 'no matter how bad an idea you think of, Lucas will come up with something that makes it look good by comparison'. Looks like he may be right...

The sandpeople had women and children. We know this because Anakin killed them how could he tell? The children might be smaller but I never saw a sandperson with breasts. Did they hike their skirts and show him some leg or something?

Also, I can see the point of wanting to kidnap a human and use her as a slave, but they didn't. They tied her to a flimsy easel for a month. It's assumed they had to feed and give her water. What for? Was she purely ornamental? I can understand them wanting the droids, you can sell those for a lot of money, but a chick who's only skills are finding non-existand mushrooms and getting randomly pregnant, you're not going to get much.

I dunno, probably. Sounds like something I would say.

We should all have known that Lucas simply could not resist something dumb like this. Any opportunity to mention things that happen in the OT simiply cannot be passed up. They have to be capitalized on, no matter how dumb an idea it may be.

As I recall you did indeed say that, and I hate you for being right. But at least they didnt go so far as to consider some of the names that Lucas had thought up such as "Dirk Starkiller" before settling on "Luke"

Yes, I still remember that particular bit of "Reasons" with "agonising baby-naming sequence Leia for the girl, Luke for the boy".

For the umpteenth time here I despair over the lack of any hope to save the series with the third instalment. I dunno, maybe next Christmas I will follow Helena's advice and actually buy KOTOR and play it by was of solacing myself.

Problem is, you cannot get the game in English here, and the level of translation is just bloody appaling. Sorry, off topic again.

I think it was obvious from the first few minutes of Episode 1 that the prequel trilogy was going to be a failure, at least in terms of actually telling a compelling story with characters you actually cared about.

Speaking of video games, did anyone here ever have Super Nintendo? I used to back in the early-mid 1990s, my brother and I actually had the Star Wars trilogy for Super Nintendo. The first two game adaptations gave you the option of Luke, Han, and Chewbacca (alas, there was no option of Obi-Wan and/or Princess Leia) and you didn't get the option of playing Leia until you got to the Return of the Jedi game. They were fun to play though (there was also an Indiana Jones trilogy game, but that's another story) and greatly preferable to sitting through the prequels and the super-special editions.

I know what you mean. When I saw that lack-luster crawl, I should've known... I should've known something was wrong, but I hung on, and deluded myself for quite sometime, and I still knew something was wrong. I really have Chefelf to thank for his list for really nailing home what was wrong with these films!

--Never played any of the Star Wars game. I always felt they never really fitted in with Star Wars, but everyone speaks so glowingly of KOTOR, that my interest is piqued. It's time to get back into video games, methinks.

The Super-Nintendo games were fun but too difficult. Super Star Wars was fairly good though as I could work my way through most of the game without cheating.

With Super Empire Strikes Back, it was impossible to get through some of the early levels - such as the ridiculous giant wampa. But what was funny though was that when I used cheat codes to get to the end levels, I could actually do very well in those. And I thought that was odd. Shouldn't these games get harder towards the end? Not easier? Not that I'm complaining. cool.gif

I quite like the PC Star Wars games. Rebel Assault and it's sequel are terrific fun. But my favourite Star Wars game, and I think my favourite game ever, is the original Dark Forces. It was really an engrossing game - very interesting and exciting. And it was challenging without being offputting.

The story in that game, as you slowly unravel the mystery of where the Dark Troopers are being manufactured, is excellent and keeps you hooked. I cannot praise this game enough. It is fantastic.
