Something I'm Considering But I'd Need a Little Help

Friends,
For a while now I've been thinking about writing an article about people who are writing their own versions of the prequel trilogy. I find the subject fascinating and I think people would like to read about people who are so passionate about a film series that they'd actually write their own scripts, even though they know they can never turn them into films. God knows I've considered doing it myself, but I don't think I'd do a very good job (though I certainly couldn't do worse than Lucas).
I'm wondering, would anyone be willing to talk with me regarding their motivations for such a thing, the realism of actually completing their work, what they hope to get out of it, what big changes they plan to make, etc?
Of course feel free to tell me it's a bad idea, believe me I shan't be offended. I personally find the subject fascinating but I realize not everyone will. Frankly if enough people poo poo the idea I guess I'll move onto something else (especially since I really can't do it without you guys).
So whaddaya think, folks? Any interest?

I wouldn't mind talking it out. I'm actually illustrating my rewrite. It has gone through so many variations, and I have all of you here to thank for it. (Yeah, so I'm stealing some ideas--what of it!? )
Maybe I actually need to be talked out of it and get back to a normal life and focus on more important things....

All I know is I haven't seen the real prequels yet.

I'm doing one such rewrite - actually its posted here at Chefelf.
I'd be happy to have a bit of a discussion with you about it - feel free to have a read of it too.

Ever since seeing TPM, I've been thinking about doing the same thing. Where is your rewrite posted? I'd love to read it.

The link to it is in a topic called "Rememberer's take's: Now showing in the screening room." The actual thing is in the Screening Room but thats just the presentation thread, not the discussion thread.
Edits: And that wasn't really a double-post... it was an identical reply to two different yet similar points.
Floppy... glad and disturbed to see your signature.

Okay, I forgot my password and for some reason the site's password retrieve function just doesn't seem to work for me, so I couldn't respond to this until today, when I got back to work. Sorry about the delay folks. And um, also if anyone knows how I can successfully reset my password, I'd be in your debt if you could pass that info along. I tried the function on the site but it just had me running around in circles. I guess I could start over, but man- I'd hate to lose my sweeeeeeeeeeet post count.
In any case I really have no idea where I'd get this thing published, to be honest. My first thought is really just to write it, then worry about what to do with it. Then when it's done, I imagine I'd shop it around and see who's interested; mostly to places like free weekly magazines and other publications that are willing to take a chance on more unique topics (and less established writers, ahem). I think I stand a relatively decent chance of attracting some interest, because the subject matter is compelling and of course everyone loves Star Wars. So my reasoning here is that someone'll take the bait. Also it's an angle of Star Wars that hasn't been reported to death, which I think will help get people interested, etc. Sure Star Wars has had a LOT of media coverage over the years, and I've seen more than a few stories about fanfilms, etc. But I've never seen a story about people who actually want to rewrite the EXISTING films and that to me is very very intriguing. Making your own movie is one thing- striving to improve the ones that already exist is very much another. So it's my hope that others will feel this story is as compelling as I do.
If I can't get any interest from such papers, I do have another angle I can try, which is slightly less appetizing but still quite viable. Don't spread it around, but I used to work for Larry Flynt and in fact my old boss is now the editor of Mr. Flynt's biggest magazine (I shan't name names though I'm guessing no one needs any hints). I could try to get the article published there and I think I'd have a decent shot because they like entertainment related stories and since there's no way in hell they'd ever get an official interview with Lucas, etc., they might like to go the other way and tell the story of the people who don't like Lucas' vision. I'm just guessing here, I could be wrong about this. And frankly this is NOT my number one choice for where to place this article, but I'm just putting it out there as an option. If I was able to write this thing, I'd love to see it actually get printed, but who knows if an adult magazine (albeit one with an amazingly huge circulation) is the place for it.
But first things first- I gotta write the article before I can worry about what to do with it. Which leads me to my next question: would anyone be willing to chat with me on the phone (on my nickel of course) to discuss their motives behind writing new versions of the prequel trilogy, what the disliked about the original, what they hope to improve on, etc? It wouldn't take too long but any actual thoughts I could get would be really helpful and give me some idea of where to take this thing, etc.
Also has anyone actually finished their script(s)? If so, are they available online, or could copies be made available? Article or not, I'd really love to read some of that stuff. As a matter of fact Mnesymone, I'm off to take a look at yours right now.
Let me conclude by saying please feel free to be honest if you guys just don't have the time or inclination to get involved with a thing like this. It's just an idea, something I think people would like to read, but please don't feel obligated in any way, if it's just not for you. I'm basically just running it up the flagpole at this point, to see if anyone salutes.
Okay, I'm off to eat a bagel now. I've put it off long enough.
Cheers,
Snaithbert

I think it would make a good article in a screen-writing or a creative-writing magazine of some kind. I don't subscribe to anything like that so I can't steer you from there.
I think the main phenomenom upon which you should focus is that all of us writing our own versions seem to understand something George Lucas does not: that stories are something that exist apart from us - in the ether somewhere.
Er, what I mean is, we have this sense that the right storytelling decisions exist, and that GL didn't make them. We're all holding GL to a standard of storytelling behavior that we wish he would follow and that we ourselves do follow. I think it's a very important lesson to learn, and that through his collossal blunder, GL just may have inspired a legion of passionate young, new writers. But I hope us writers eventually make new shit rather than rehash Star Wars.
Yeah, the Star Wars universe has awesome qualities, but there have got to be other good ideas out there - in the ether.
