Ok, so I was reading in this monthly magazine I get from Costco (which is one of my favorite stores, by the way) and in the Travel Connection section it highlighted Disneyland's Pirates of the Caribbean because...wait for it ... the are updating the ride. Updatey. In case you are not inclined to click and read, basically they are adding Jack Sparrow and Barbossa to the characters featured on this ride, as well as updating the lighting and special effects. The addition of Jack and Barbossa will change the theme of the ride a bit, because now it will feature a bit of a race to some treasure.
I really don't know how to take this... On one hand, I really like Jack and the movies, and on the other hand, Pirates has always been one of my favorite rides at Disneyland, and I hate to have the magic ruined by tampering.
Thoughts? ?

I just regret that I don't think I've ever been on the Pirates of the Caribbean ride, and if I have, I was definitely too young to remember it. I don't think I've been to any Disney-related theme park since I was nine.
Check out my crappy drawings!

I went on it once when I was about six. Although my imagination may have been filling in more than my eyes, I was convinced they were real pirates and the boat would sink.
So, all in all, the ride's not bad as it is.

I've ridden the Disney World version a number of times. I like the old effects and would hate to have some scrapped for a new "improvement".
course I haven't seen the movie, so if they added characters and changed the action direction a little I might not mind- as long as the new additions didn't slight the experience. "Starring Jack Sparrow" (or whoever,) a glisteningly different animatronic with the dipped in plastic look, or a not-too-subtle-now reference to Keith Richards would all be over the line.
Strange. Popular ride (which Jacko had built in Neverland, didn't he?) inspires Movie which deems the ride's need to be changed to reflect the movie the ride inspired. Sounds a little too SE in premise for me.

I'm a hugh Disney fan and when I used to live in St. Pete, FL it was only about 2 hours to drive to Orlando and I got all kinds of FL resident discounts so I visited WDW quite often, 4-6 times a year to be exact. Anyway, after the PotC movie came out, which IMO is one of the best movies ever made, much better than Haunted Mansion anyway, I was thinking that it might actually be sort of cool if they did add in Capt. Jack and Barbosa to the ride in some way to kind of link the two entities. At the Magic Kingdom in FL all they did was include a short voice over by Barbosa with the line, "You best start believing in ghost stories because you're in one." right at the part of the ride at the begining after the skull overhead states, "thar be rough waters ahead mateys, arr!" [or something like that whatever it is it says ] That little extra bit was actually kind of cool, but maybe just J&B battling it out at the begining in the first sceen on the ride of the pirate ship and the fort shooting at each other would be nice, but not the entire ride decked out with the two of them over and over again. It's hard enough to understand all of the words on the ride with out adding these two guys with more expostion all over it. I don't think that it will ruin the attraction, but it just might be overkill. Now if they put Eddie Murphy all over the Haunted Mansion then that will ruin an attraction.
