After watching the film version of Evita which fictionally depicted Che Guevara's disenchantment with the Peron regime of Argentina I did a bit of digging. I'd read Dr. Guevara's biography as any good communist aught to, and it mentioned that he had once sent a letter to Evita asking her for a jeep (as it was customary for her to grant gifts to lower class Argentines, though Guevara's family was of the middle class that chafed the most at the Perons. He was also said to have later participated in Anti Peron street protests, though this is not verified.
The question of Dr. Guevara's history with his country's second and third most famous citizens (Eva and Juan) is of little importance here. I'm more curious as to how others view them. I'm personally a bit conflicted. There's no doubt that thousands were imprisoned and hundreds killed, and that they were fascists. However they did a great deal for the common Argentine people, raising wages and nationalizing industry.
If anyone else has read up on their regime I'd like to hear some thoughts.
