Just played all the SE games. Best around 18 bucks Canadian and several hours I should have been doing essay research I've ever spent.
5DaS introduces things so incredibly well, and really is a damn good standalone game. 7DaS has a wonderful frantic feel at times, and really does well with introducing characters and making the ship feel like a real place. Trilby's Notes was still scary, even though I'd played it before. 6DaS was better the second time, and with all the commentary for the games, because I got more from it, understanding what was going on more.

Well, got 5DAS and it was so cool. Then got 7DAS, and it was cooler. Both fairly scary...though not to the degree that some have said, none of this "can't play at night" stuff...though I'm the same with most horror movies.
Then found out there was a third, and got all excited. Then dissapointed. The other world of the hotel started off scary, but after wandering around for a bit figuring out what to do, it stopped beign scary. The flashbacks were cool, and going into the other world to pass locked doors was as well. And the Tall Man seriously was the coolest...though I prefer to think of him as having no face, rather than having a mask. When you come downstairs and he is playing your new harpsichord, it was so cool. But Chzo was a bit too much...keeping it as just one vengeful ghost was better, IMHO. Adding a whole new level to it...nah...
Still a good gaem, but not as good as 5DAS, or 7DAS.
6DAS...a bit weird with the split time thingy...but Trilby clones? Wandering round with a broken neck? Oh, and there's a man and a woman, so they must have sex...at least though she got gibbed, and he got demoned, so it wasn't so bad. The mansion bits were pretty cool though.
I'd say, in decreasing order of greatness.
