Looking at some of the demonstrations in the news, I've noticed a common theme in all this stuff against the Israeli-US aggression in Gaza: everyone in the world has ready access to a flammable American flag. This leads to several queries. First of all, where do these flags originate from? Is there some international distributer that provides American flags for burning at demonstrations from Pakistan to Spain? Do they make a decent profit at it? Or is it more seasonal work depending on how many people the US is killing at the moment? What do they do in the times when we're not at war?
And how does a gang of angry anti-US people always manage to get a flag? What if its a spontaneous demonstration? Is there a shipping period, or do they have stocked stores in countries that are prone to anti-Americanism?
The thing that gets me is that you're terribly unlikely to see this in America. I mean, if I wanted to protest, say, Uruguay, I don't even KNOW what the Uruguayan flag looks like, much less where to buy one. I know, I know, wikipedia/ebay combo, but fuck, I don't think this beardy guy stomping on an effigy of George Bush is going to go home and contribute to an online shopping community.
So, yeah, this is a mystery and I for one am very curious.

YESH! Finally the site has educational value and I can apply for that teacher's association grant, and maybe not be blocked in every school in the country!
