Since it is a tobic about connecting, I would like you to ponder a few things. I mentioned in another thread that not only does the ROTS fail to connect with OT, but also it fails to connect with other prequels.
TPM and AOTC leave us with some loose ends and Lucas tried to patch only a few of them (poorly).
1. Midichlorians and Anakin's conception. Even if we accept the explanation about creating life from Midichlorians, wouldn't the Jedi Master who conducted such experiment try to follow its results? Anakin being brought into all this is pretty concidental. I mean, you can't tell me it was planned by this Darth Plagus or whatever his name was to have Qui-Gon ship hyperdrive break just when they were fyling over Tatoone?
2. Creation of Clone Army, Master Syfo Dias and the reason to create the Clone Army. This is very crucial point, and it is not explained, unless in some EU book and comics
3. Why Anakin's mother was kidnapped by Sand People. From what I remember, she was only mentioned once in ROTS, and I don't agree with some people that she played such a huge role in bringing Anakin to the dark side.
4. Count Dooku. He appreared from nowhere in AOTC and disappeared at the beginning of ROTS. It seems to me that the only reason he was in PT in the first place was because of his ability do deliver unbelievable lines in a deep bellowing voice.
5. Barend's point 0 flying ability of R2 is no more in ROTS
There are just a few points. What say you, good people?
1. There isnt any actual proff that he created Anakin, only the suggestion. I dont buy it, for the reasons you stated mostly, and I accept Qui Gons view. P is a liar, and a master manipulator, who would say and suggest whatever it took to get Anakin under his wing. In this case, it ties in with what Sidoius later says about it being Anakins destiny. I liked it that Lucas threw a spanner in the works for those of us who were actually following the story.
2. I agree with you here. Although I dont think its a severe plot hole (I think its assumed that Dooku erased the files), it would have been good to get that resolved. The odd thing about it is, that in the AotC DVD commentary, Lucas clearly states that this issue would be resolved in "the next one". I wonder why it was dropped? its a shame, but its nothing massive.
3. you bring up a few different things here. Why Shmi was kidnapped isnt important. She was actually brought up 3 or 4 times in the film, and she is vital in understanding Anakins turn. That whole sequence in AotC ends with him saying "I wont fail again" after he did fail to protect her and keep her safe (whether he could have done it or not is irrelevant, the fact is that he blamed himself). Its this motivation that hes got in Ep3, and which spurs him on to the dark side.
4. Lucas needed a new sith for Sidious, a figurehead for the seperatists, a
fallen jedi (to show it could be done), and yes, im sure he also needed a guy with a cool voice.
5. R2 does fly in RotS.
