3PO Shutting Dwn in ANH at Ben's Place Relatively meaningless point, but

Do not know if this was covered before but,

As we all remember from ANH, there was a point when 3PO at Kenobi's place asks Luke if it is alright to power down. If you notice, he does this right after ben goes to get Anakin's lightsaber. In the "Amazing Cross Section" boks they do a blowup of Kenobi's place and specifically state that 3PO asks to power down at the moment b/c he is programmed to do so if he ever hears anything that might give away Anakins history as it relates to Luke.

Is there any possible way Lucas could have known what he wanted to do from ANH when it comes to Luke being Vader's son and taht 3PO would have some involvement from day 1? We always assumed 3PO saying taht was a throw-away line, but was it? I cannot give Lucas that much credit...although he was on his A-game from 1975 to 1982...just thought it was interesting.

Absolutely no chance.

The reason 3PO shut down is most likely because Lucas felt it would be odd to have a silent Threepio just sorta looking around in the background during all that exposition. It would have been a little distracting. Without any real reason to have the droid wander out of the room I suppose that would be why he goes into shut down.

Any minor scene in the movie could be explained in a way that made it tie in with the prequels in some outlandish way. This one is a bit far fetched I think, IMHO.
