Any prequel gusher will tell you that Owen's insistence on getting Luke to erase the droid's memory is a sign that he DID remember Threepio. I dunno. I don't buy it.
I think the biggest plot hole (though I'm not sure it's necessarily a hole) is the lack of development of ANY relationship between Anakin and Palpatine. The only indication that they've ever spoken is that scene where Anakin and Palpatine talk for about 30 seconds and Anakin talks about Palpatine's "guidance". Lucas ADMITS to filming last and clumsily pasting on, specifically because he didn't do anything to advance their relationship. The film (and trilogy) suffers most from this lack of development that should have been firmly established in the first film. We see nothing to indicate anything other than they are simply aquaintances.

They may look similar, but they all seem to have their own voice and personality, and C-3P0 is not exactly forgettable. The droids could have had a memory wipe (though goodness knows why); Owen couldn't.
Since he seemed fine in TPM, the only explanation I can think of - barring some kind of brain damage or mental illness - is that Obi-Wan really, really screwed up his training. If I were Luke I'd be running like hell...

Here is my biggest hole:
How a normal woman can fall in love with a total jerk and psychopath to booth (murdering a whole village of Sand People).
Also, another irresolvable issue to me is making Tatooine such a big venue for events in PT. From OT I thought that Tatooine was such an ideal place to hide for Luke and Obi-Wan because nobody knew anything about it. But if Vader grew on Tatooine, would it not be a first place to look for remaining Jedi and his offspring? Graned, that he knew anything about Leia, but I assume he knew somehow that he had a son.
Or perhaps he knew that Luke and Obi-Wan live on Tatooine, but just waited for Luke to grow up to turn him into dark side and for Obi-wan to grow weak to kill him more easily?
It sounds stupid. Tatooine should have been a hiding place and Vader should have known nothing about it.
And if he wanted to find his children wouldn’t it be a good idea to run a midichlorian-count check in every child in the galaxy?

Remember this conversation between Luke and Obi Wan on Tatooine -
"Oh my father didn't fight in the war. He was a navigator on a spice freighter."
"That's what your uncle told you. He didn't hold with your father's ideals. He thought he should have stayed here and not gotten involved."
Lucas has done one thing right in remembering that Anakin came from Tatooine. But he has completely forgotten the part about Luke's Uncle not holding with his father's ideals and that he didn't want Anakin to go off to war.
This is quite a big thing to forget as it dictates a large chunk of the back story ->
Anakin was already a young adult on Tatooine when the Clone Wars broke out. Luke's Uncle thought he should have stayed on Tatooine but instead Anakin went off, following Obi Wan on some damn fool idealistic crusade.
Note how Anakin already knew Luke's uncle and they must have been close. Also, there's no mention of a little slave kid and pod racing. Also, remember how when Obi Wan knew him, he was already a great pilot. So perhaps he may have even fought in some battles already before Obi Wan met him.
Interesting, isn't it?

Yet another great point in showing the glaring inconsistencies between the two sets of movies. I had almost forgotten about this line.
As we all know Owen didn't know Anakin until WAY after he "got involved". Unless, in the third movie, Owen tries to talk Anakin out of getting MORE involved. That, of course, would be very weak. Especially since Anakin and Owen seem to have nothing more than a nodding acquaintence with one another.

1. How a nine year old kid is able to build a flying droid that makes Inspector Gadget look like a swiss army knife and another droid that knows six million languages.
2. How stormtrooper suits come in different sizes yet they're made for clones.

In Star Wars prequels it is offered up as a curious aside and promptly forgotten.

Another great point. This is beyond weak.
Why? It would have been so much cooler to have him have had a "no good smuggler/spice miner" type father instead. We don't have to know him. He doesn't even have to be mentioned. Who cares... leave any explanation (immaculate conception aside) to the Expanded Universe crap.

This coincidentally is exactly what Liam Neeson and Ewan Macgregor said in interviews about why they decided to work on the PT.
