The Star Wars Holiday Special My Review... at last.

It IS a chore to watch. I realize that now. Other than a real player file to listen to for corny dialog during long productive work sessions to pass the time, I'm glad I went to that dance in ninth grade instead of staying home to watch this ham-fisted production.
I once saw an actual VHS copy, and there's stuff there you just can't see on the Real player. The movement is more fluid, the sound quality better and the images are sharper. But that just clears your vision to perceive how bad it is. If I can criticize the SW HS, PT gushers can take an honest assessment of their genre as well.
As a sequence of clips, it's fabulous. You can zip through all the lame and, erm, deliberate portions and go right to the Bea Arthur number. And the Tree of Life (giggle) song. "How about a smile?" I'm smiling just thinking about it.
But I can admit at least 70% of it isn't worth watching ten times. Isn't that the barometer for judging a Star Wars film? On how much you like it after watching it ten times?
*btw- Now I have seen the rat man and Darth Maul. I've also seen that Good Han Solo had Nothing Whatsoever to do with that stormtrooper lunging, tripping and falling through the railing to his (presumed) death. Have a good life day.

This has probably been done someplace else, but here are the number of times I've seen each film, including thetrical releases:
PT:
TPM 5 times tops
AOTC 5 times tops
ROTS twice period
ST HS:
never
OT-SE 1st draft:
ANH once
ESB never
ROTJ never
OT-SE 2nd draft:
ANH
ESB
ROTJ
around ten times each
OT:
ANH
ESB
ROTJ
somewheres between 500 and 1000 times each.
even if you forgive the different amounts of time I've had to watch each film, I think there might be a pattern somewhere.
Apparently writing about JM here is his secret weakness. Muwahaha!!!! Now I have leverage over him and am another step closer towards my goal of world domination.
"And the Evil that was vanquished shall rise anew. Wrapped in the guise of man shall he walk amongst the innocent and Terror shall consume they that dwell upon the Earth. The skies will rain fire. The seas shall become as blood. The righteous shall fall before the wicked! And all creation shall tremble before the burning standards of Hell!" - Mephisto
Kurgan X showed me this web comic done with Legos. It pokes fun at all six Star Wars films and I found it to be extremely entertaining.

Me:
TPM 5 times tops as well! (twice in theater)
AOTC 8 times I think (3 times in the theater, and once was the IMAX version)
ROTS 7 times so far (3 times in the theater)
ST HS:
This is scary, but 2 1/2! Once in really crap quality real media, once in better quality divx.
A friend gave me a fan made dvd of it and I got about halfway through it before giving up to regain my sanity.

OT-SE 1st draft:
ANH once

ANH once
ESB never
ROTJ never
ANH: 6 or 7 times by last count
ESB: 6 or 7 times (since I usually do a marathon if I see them)
ROTJ: 6 times (one less than the others because I only saw it once in the theater instead of twice like the others)

OT-SE 2nd draft:
ANH
ESB
ROTJ

ROTJ
ANH: 3 times
ESB: 2 1/2 (never finished my 1-6 marathon)
ROTJ: 1 (clicked through and watched various scenes a few times though since then)

Wow! I think I've probably seen ANH about 10 times, ESB about 5 or 6 times, and ROTJ I've lost count (estimating about 100 times).

Lately I've watched ANH and ESB a lot more, I guess to make up for watching ROTJ so much as a kid (we taped it off TV once, it was horrible quality and edited for television in full frame), when I was babysitting my younger siblings.
I disliked a lot of the SE changes, but now that I've got the originals again I may watch it more often.

To anyone interested, there's a version of the SWHS in high quality (compared to other versions I've seen) dvd torrent on myspleen.com, labelled "AngrySun Edition" (bear in mind there are several AngrySun editions, so get the one labeled "KCCI" that's the best one in terms of video quality, it also seperates the cartoon and the commercials out into seperate titles so you can view find them easier). It even includes DVD-ROM content (publicity photos and behind the scenes stills, loads of SW related and many funny mp3's).

I purchased the SWHS about 3 years ago at a convention and watched it that night alone. I giggled a bit here and there, but I was mostly sickened by this film. There was one scene however that got me crying with laughter to the point of turning off the movie because I was about to vomit. It's the scene where the stormtrooper snatches the computer out of Lumpy's hands and slams it on the ground with such force, it sounds like someone dropped a locomotive off of a building! I kept rewinding the film just to hear this crap over and over again.
Later, I warned a good friend of mine how bad this really was and so we watched it. Watching this film with a friend helps a lot, believe me. When we got to the scene with the stormtrooper and Lumpy's computer, we both fell over instantly laughing and comenting on the hideous sound that computer made.
If there is any scene to re-watch in this film, it has to be that one alone. Just listen to the astronomical sound that comes from that computer being destroyed.

Yeah, I have the album but I've never completely been able to listed to a single song. It's way worse than people even describe it as being even when they're going over the top to say how bad it is.
Even playing a few seconds of What Can You Get A Wookiee For Christmas (When He Already Owns A Comb?) is enough to drive Jen into hysterics.
