Naturally, my Avatar is the second civilian option from the multiplayer option in that classic Nintendo game, GOLDENEYE. Didn't take long to find it at all. I love the internet!
Damn, When I think about it, I can't even imagine life without the internet. It's been more than five years since I entered a public library in search of a book. The last time I went in there, it was to use the public terminals to check my email. Life since the internet is so much more information-packed. Who played that guy in that film? imdb. What's the origin of that word? I dunno, check google. Can you still find this product? ebay.
When I went to college, people were typing their essays out on typewriters. In dire straits, a student could get away with submitting something *handwritten*. And for the record I, am not an old guy (35). This internet/PC revolution is not yet a decade on, and already I can't remember life before it.
Bit of a rant there, but I like to put something into a post, rather than just leave it "My Avatar's a guy from GOLDENEYE."
Mike.

I didn't own a computer until after I left University in 1995. I also refused to use a typewriter to do up essay's or assignments. I believe I was the only person in my entire course who submitted every assignment hand written. I must admit that I took great pleasure in doing this also. It became a bit of a mission for me. Complete my degree with all assignement and essays hand written. I even managed to submit hand written papers for my computers and stats courses :-) As you can see I wasvery driven at University.

I just had the picture I'm using saved in Paint and just lowered the resolution on the image. This made it small enough to post and also resulted in the cool effect. Well I think it's cool anyway...

The thing I truly love about the internet is that on this message board you can pretty much have any name you'd like (there aren't many registered users). You could be John, Frank, Tom, Clarissa, Katie, Judy. None of those names are taken. Yet people will select names like "civilian_number_two" which is so much more interesting.
Bravo to you all and your names.

I set the avatar file size to be 10kb (because for a pic of that size there is really no reason it should be any bigger than that).
What you need to do is compress your graphic. If you don't have a graphics compression program then try Spinwave.com. It's a great free site where you can optimize your graphics for the web.
Select JPEG or GIF (depending ont he filetype) and then browse your computer to find the graphic. It will then give you several optimization options and you simply select the picture that is the best compromise between image quality and filesize. Then save it to your desktop.
Hope that helps.
