Why has George Lucas forgotten Gonk? A lament for a forgotten bit-part

Haha that's classic JYAMG.
Don't fear gonk fans. In my version of the trilogy (currently screening ep1 in the screening room forums) Gonk gets MORE time than Boba Fett.

"In the latest installment of George Lucas' popular science fiction saga, REVENGE OF THE SITH, MSE-6 returns and battles evil men in dresses with funny hats. Aided by his comical sidekick, the Death Star Droid, "Mousedroid MSE-6" mismanages imperial data in the network and is chased throughout the film by the notorious imperial desk clerk. The funny Sith are angry, as MSE-6 lost all data files concerning the Clone Army and demand that the imperial desk clerk find "that damned infernal droid" or lose his job. With comic wit and satire, Lucas does it again in Star Wars Episode III. Two Thumbs Up. --Ebert & Roper

Thanks Movie Goer.
I am anxious to learn more about the mouse droid. He always got a strong reaction.
And was mentioned in the title of a JW piece, I believe.
The appeal of these fresh and interesting roles is entirely due to their lack of dialogue.
As for worn out characters: "they're no good to me dead."

This is fantasitic!!!!
But I would like to let you all know that both Gonk & MSE-6 have made additional appearances outside the films. Both feature in the Star Wars - Jedi Outcast game. There is a scene in which Kyle walks into a room and you hears the dulcet tones of "The Gonk". When you as the player fllow these hallowed melodies they lead you to te one and only Gonk. In doing so you also happen to find the next exit you need to progress.
MSE-6, however gets paid the larger respect I must say. At one point you at the player actually get toplay MSE-6 and enter a gas filled chamber and go beyond where no living being (no even a Jedi) could pass. He helps you unlock something or other and cease the gas flow so the lesser being can then proceed.
So fear not that Gonk on MSE-6 are forgotten. They are remembered by those that matter - the fans and the makers of the games that are also making Lucas richer.

"In Episode III, the origin of the Millennium Falcon is a significant feature...as MSE-6 transmits an S.O.S, it is picked up by the crew of the Millennium Falcon, captained by Bo Shek and his merry band of pirates. They swoop down onto the imperial command ship, and in an exciting rescue, manage to defeat the Sith, and steal the entire ship's supply of toilet paper while freeing the Mousedroid from the clutches of Sgt.Praji."

That's the one scene in EMPIRE that George Lucas guest-directed.
Not kidding. Kirshner saw him standing around like a lost dog and said "Why don't you direct this scene?" and so he did.

that dude in the middle could be played by geofrey rush or james woods...
i recognise all but the dude in blue with a tit on his head...

Hanni... i think its about time you created a thread in the screening room...
i would like to see the adventures of the lesser known OT characters...
(and you could score pics of the "i think we should evacuate" dude from the pilot eposdode of blakes 7)

i wonder if in ep3 we'll find out why gonk is so hell bent on wiping out the skywalker family?
