In Topic: Lucas quotes

Not to mention the part when Lucas says he's, "not interested in making a movie with a bunch of talking heads."
Right. Why'd you do it, then, George? -

Yeah. I totally see the 1930s influence during Yoda's scenes in Empire, I just never noticed it until now.
Look, dude, he's a bag of wind. If you can't realize that after reading these quotes, then... -

In Topic: Yoda looks like a crappy sock puppet

It's sometimes sad listening to comments on the DVD of Empire.
Here we have this risky introduction of Yoda which the success of the movie - according to Lucas - hinges on, and Freeborn, Oz and Kirschner absolutely nail it.
Then on the DVD, Lucas says something like, "This is probably where I first thought about making digital characters, because since Yoda's a puppet, it limits what you can do, like showing him walk away on his feet and so forth.."
Ironically, Lucas has always professed to love that scene and admire deeply what Frank Oz did with Yoda. He doesn't see that the movie magic from the 1980s has been replaced by easy, lazy, glistening crap.

By the way, the saber fights got worse and worse as the PT unfolded. It's like each one gets longer and longer and more pointless. There's this moment during Anakin vs. Obiwan when they're a foot away from each other and they, like...ninja-twirl their sabers for a couple seconds, and then clash. It's so stupid. It makes you aware you're watching choreography. I'm watching the scene and I'm like, "stab him in the goddam stomach, Obiwan!"
Maybe the fights in the OT lacked some zip (especially in ANH) but at least it's easier to believe the characters are trying to hurt each other. Remember how Vader kept swinging at Luke in Cloud City? It's a sword FIGHT, for crying out loud! Not a dance!
