France is getting an OOT anamorphic release
No they're not. It turned out to be a false alarm based on the wrong choice of words.

Lucas' status as an arrogant rat bastard is as safe in France as it is here.

There's no way I'm buying these shoddy, inferior 1993 laserdisc dump-versions. This is just the latest in a series of "fuck you" moves by Lucas. Here's a quote from mtv.com:

"he says he's curious to see what the reception will be for the upcoming limited-edition DVD release of the three original "Star Wars" films (see "Three Original 'Star Wars' Films (Finally) Coming To DVD — But Not For Long"). "It's just the original versions, as they were," Lucas said. "We didn't do anything to it at all. But we're not sure how many people want that."

You might say quite a few, considering how many fans were angered by the digitized, expanded updates of episodes IV, V and VI. Lucas claims he's not re-releasing the originals to appease fans, but rather to bate them. "Now we'll find out whether they really wanted the original or whether they wanted the improved versions," he said. "It'll all come out in the end."

It' s rather obvious that he's thinking that because so many people are going to refuse to buy low-quality versions of the originals, that he'll be able to say "see? You people said you wanted the orginals, and now you're not buying them after all! I was right about the 2004 versions being superior all along!"

    What an unmitigated asshole.

The question of who shot first is irrelevant.
Riiiight, that's why Lucas went to ALL that trouble to change the scene and not simply leave it the way it was (and the way he originally wrote it and WANTED it), because it's "irrelevant". wacko.gif

    Why does it really matter
Why are you asking me? YOU decided it mattered enough to YOU enough to start a thread about it and to repeat the Lucas claim that he redid everything to conform to his so-called “original vision”. Of course, after it's shown that claim is utter bullshit with respect to the Greedo scene, you now claim that none of it matters, thereby rendering your own thread irrelevant.

Funny how you decided that supporting a Lucas claim matters, but showing him to be a liar doesn’t.

    Excellent post!

Lucas should genuinely try running a religion.
Based on how some people react to the man, I have no doubt at all that he would have quite a few VERY devoted followers.

    QUOTE
"That was a mistake in the editing," or "we missed Greedo's shot when adding the special effects" are such transparent bullshit that it insults the intelligence even of incredibly credulous people.
What's fascinating is that some people not only adamantly refuse to be insulted by his lies, they prefer to be outraged by the "insult" of those who CALL him on his lies.
