QUOTE (J m HofMarN @ Apr 1 2005, 11:49 PM)
And now, for the last bloody time, here is a quote from the princeton dictionary.
Now are you quite happy that I've had to once again defend a meaningless joke I made at your expense about two or three months ago or are you out buying mortar and bricks and amontillado?
It was not a meaningless joke, it was a stupid attack on my credibility, based on my diasagreement with you over some poem that I read and loved and apparently didn't understand as well as you did. That is my "dysfunction" by the way: every now and then I disagree with you, and you go off the rails about it and make wild attacks that I have to spend days defending myself against.
For the record, I didn't attack you for NOT attacking thrawn; I questined why you went out of your way to DEFEND him. These are different concepts.
Back to "Howl," I like your "definition" by the way: You went to dictionary.com and selected the poorest-worded example from the lot, so as to prop up your mean-spirited "joke." Anyone looking to see whether I'm wrong can take a look here:
http://dictionary.re...ch?q=generationThe consensus there disagrees with the definition you picked, and even your selection offers a choice and is therefore not exact.
When Ginsberg used the word, he was NOT talking about McCarthy, and he was NOT talking about his dad. More to the point, NOBODY uses "generation" to include himself with EVERYBODY alive at the time; he uses it to refer to himself and his contemporaries, people of the same biological age. You know this; it's amazing that you have never admitted your mistake and apologized.
Anyway, since the purpose of this thread was to corral the posts of a guy who had at that time 50 posts a day, and since he's hardly even on this board anymore, and since the bulk of the "volume" he allegedly generates is other folks complaining about how much he's ruined this place, I think it's safe to say this thread is dead. It's no longer even about communists or George Lucas, for instance, as the title would imply. If you feel like continuing this spirited series of one-sided attacks, JM, you'll need to resurrect another months-old topic.
And of course if you'd like to resurrect "Meesa Howl" to further make your points about Ginsberg, I'll meet you there and I will not call you a McCarthyist, and I will not suggest you have a dysfunction or are stupid or illiterate, and while I will disagree with you, I will continue not to question your integrity.
"I had a lot of different ideas. At one point, Luke, Leia and Ben were all going to be little people, and we did screen tests to see if we could do that." -George Lucas, in STAR WARS: the Annotated Screenplays (p197).
