Yahtzee vs. CAD the decisive battle

Would you say the same thing about Penny Arcade (since they have several picture packs?) Or, hell, Yahtzee with his "I Eat Lions" shirts? It's kind of unfair to use the fact that he has merchandise for sale against him when just about everyone with fans has merchandise.
As for the whole "Buckley = Pedophile" thing, I'll remain skeptical until I see definitive proof. He may be a dick to people or he may not (I don't know him personally, and I've never witnessed the bans he's apparently famous for), but this is the internet, and anyone can say anything about anyone else and fabricate the evidence to prove it. Hell, who's to say that that wasn't a picture of the person who posted it, and he's just passing it off as Buckley? *shrug* I could photoshop my name on a random guy too and say "LOOK YAHTZEE'S A PEDO!!1!"
As for CAD, I used to post there occasionally, but I don't bother anymore. I check the webcomic on occasion to see if I can get some chuckles. If I get some, yay. If the comic sucks, whatever. The only thing I look forward to with regularity anymore is another Zero Punctuation movie.
By the way, can you PM me the Buckley page, Game Over? I'm intrigued to see it.

Yahtzee is actually the oldest of all big brothers, but his merchandise are more worth.
PE? Homosexual merchandise is always from the heart.

Also, on the main page:
-Yahtzee
As the Lenin if the anti-CAD propoganda office, I...think Yahtzee is right. He takes it like a man and is well aware of what people say about him.

(The thought of Trilby doing some wrestling moves on Hitler on WWE vs. RAW mackdown has blocked my mind right now. It came to me while I was having a shower. Just imagine the tall guy doin' a choke slam on Trilby and him making a comeback with a Boot and a 619. Wait a sec, let me write this down.)

It all started with this comic. Some liked it, some complained that rape isn't funny. Someone posted:
Tim responsed to the post with:
Try to bear in mind that no opinion is right or wrong."
That didn't make much sense to me, so I responded:
Later when I tried to get back on the forum I got this message:
You have been banned for the following reason:
No reason was specified.
Date the ban will be lifted: Never
My post had also been deleted.
Hm, no reason specified. Of course I knew exactly what that meant. I still liked posting on the forum at that time though, so I sent Tim an e-mail detailing how I hadn't broken any rules, and how he had no reason to ban me. He actually responded to me, with this message:
I own my forums and I can run them however I want. If I want to remove
assholes, we can do that.
I removed your post, and you, because you were acting like a jerk. And
judging from the email you just sent me, littered with personal attacks,
apparently I wasn't far off the mark.
The mistake you seem to be making here is assuming that this is about
"taking criticism". I have no problem taking criticism. I have a problem
with assholes, people who can't express their opinions constructively.
What a lot of people, yourself included, don't seem to understand, is
the difference between negative criticism and just plain negativity.
"I don't like this comic", "This one wasn't funny", "I think this could
be improved by 'x'", those posts don't get deleted.
"This sucks, you suck, this comic is shit", that's not criticism, that's
just posting negatively and immaturely, and with personal attacks. I
can't force people to be more mature and intelligent, but I certainly
don't have to allow them on my forums.
I believe everyone is entitled to their opinion, but they aren't
entitled to express it like assholes on a site that I pay for and run. I
don't need that kind of negativity in my life, and it's not the
atmosphere I want to promote for other forum goers. If you can't be
civil, you're not welcome on my forums.
It's less what you say, and more how you say it.
-Tim
Wow, what a power-drunk asshole.
The "personal attacks" he mentions was me calling him immature three times and insecure once. There was not a cuss word or exclemation mark to be found in my e-mail.
However, I still wanted to post in the forum, so I thought some sucking up might work. I responded to him, and ended my e-mail with:
That's right folks. I apologized to him. Not to mention I said ctrl-alt-del was awesome, when it hadn't made my laugh in years.
I sent him 2 more e-mails, asking to be unbanned, but he never responded to me again. Not to be deterred, I made a second account. The original account was made on a computer I don't have anymore, so the IP was new. Anyway, just recently there was a thread about a VG Cats parody of CAD, here.
I posted, on my new account.
That post was deleted within minutes. That's right, ladies and gentlemen, not even that is allowed. The tiniest, even joking insinuation that Tim Buckley could be pwned is not allowed. Again, not to be deterred, I reposted the same message a few more times, each one getting deleted, until I got this message.
No, you just got owned because you can't take a hint.
Date the ban will be lifted: (7 days)
Banned because I can't take a hint. Hm.
I'm sure my story is nothing special, but it's just another glimpse, ain't it?

Um, calling someone "immature" several times makes it sound like you were just being a douchebag. Really, it's hard to try and pass off calling someone insecure and immature as being anything other than an insult, and then try and act surprised that he didn't respond well to it. It doesn't take "cuss words" to be insulting.
As for his email, hes got a point. It's his site, his forum, paid for by him. You're his guest, abiding by his rules; he can do whatever the hell he wants. How is that not understandable? It's like getting upset at someone when they throw you out of their party. It's their party, they can do what they want, whether you like it or not, and whether it's fair or not.
Lastly, a lot of this "he doesn't respond well to criticsm" getting tossed around seems underhandedly deceptive. It tries to pass off people being assholes (this comic sucks) as criticism, then saying, "SEE?! HE DOESN'T ALLOW CRITICISM!" when he calls it for what it is. That's all I've seen, at least. Do you, or anyone else, have examples of actual criticism that got people banned? If you can post it, I'd love to see it. I find this whole thing interesting.
Personally, I think his reaction was out of line to the initial "it's not funny" comment, and that he was over-reacting, but that's just me. But hey, if people were being douchebags on my site, I'd kick them off too. You don't have a "right" to be there, after all.

Oh course it was an insult. Nobody likes being insulted, but calling my e-mail, "riddled with personal attacks" is a stretch and gives the wrong impression.
But that's just it. I did follow his rules, broke none of them, and was banned, officially for no stated reason. The unofficial reason? I dared to criticize him. You see no problem with that?
Yes, he pays for his forum. Yes, he can do whatever the hell he wants. Whether it is legal or not, fair or not, he can do what he wants. But the same logic could be applied to a Dictatorship, could it not?
You are confusing flaming with criticism. It is not only flaming that is not allowed, which is understandable, but criticism too.
I challenge you, go to the General Discussion forum in the Ctrl-Alt-Delete Forums and post a new thread. Call it, "The Ctrl-Alt-Del Criticism Thread" and say, "Here's a thread where we can post constructive criticism about the comic" and see just how long it lasts.
Where've you seen it?
We can't, because the posts are deleted.
Are you ignoring the part of my post, where I mentioned that simply posting, "Did Tim just get pwned?" in a joking manner is enough to get you a 7 day ban? It is not only douchabags that are banned.

1). As a website owner you are free to ban anyone for any reason you find acceptable, so long as they do not own any part of the website.
2). Banning people arbitrarily is not quite polite.
So:
Yes. Buckley is within his rights banning anyone who criticizes him
Yes. You have some right to be a little perturbed, especially if you were a regular poster and fan.
But lets take an example post and run through Buckley's apparent logic, so that I can point something out:
Poster X:
This Comic sucks balls and Buckley shows his dick to little girls.
-Banned. Buckley could easily argue that this is not criticism, but a random flame, and did not in anyway contribute positively to discussion on the forums.
Poster Y:
Buckley, you can't handle criticism, you are immature.
-Banned. Buckley could probably make the exact same argument.
I think that Buckley assumes that the forums exist for people to discuss the comic, and that if you use it to criticize him as a person then you aren't contributing to positive discussion on the forum.
Maybe if you tried Poster Y's post without any inflammatory language, and he banned it, then perhaps you could frame a very reasonable argument that Buckley is a douche.
Maybe a post along the lines,
Topic: Why do so many people dislike CAD??!!
Text: I was looking through the internet, and found that a lot of people don't like CAD, and I was surprised. Many people seem to think it has to do with Tim's moderating the forums. Does anyone think that his banning policies hurts his image on the internet? I think a lot of the hate-mongering is very upsetting.
Of course, however, that post is still the sort of criticism that Buckley probably considers outside of the frame of appropriate discussion, as it's whole topic is Buckley himself and not CAD at all.
Thus, I think to avoid getting the post deleted, you'd need to fill it with so much artificial sweetening and kiss-assery that you'd probably puke. And even then, you'd have to assume that Buckley is stupid enough to bite your bit of poison bait, since it is STILL a criticism of Buckley as a person and NOT his web comic.
