I saw it last night. Neat film, kinda weird. Probably should have read the graphic novel by Alan Moore before seeing the film adaptation. Natalie Portman was kinda flat; I'm starting to wonder if she's just naturally flat or if it was that she had trouble with the British accent (you know how tricky it can be with accents).

I saw it. It is pretty faithful to the graphic novel, with some differences to make Portman's and Rea's characters more sympathetic. The film's issue of fascism is more cartoonish, and easier to sell in a film. It's a pretty big idea to do in a movie, and was ultimately too big for the comic series as well. Poor sales or whatever had caused it to be reduced from a planned ongoing series to a miniseries, and as such many character plots were truncated to the point of questionable relevance. The movie resolved this by cutting some characters out altogether.
"I had a lot of different ideas. At one point, Luke, Leia and Ben were all going to be little people, and we did screen tests to see if we could do that." -George Lucas, in STAR WARS: the Annotated Screenplays (p197).

V had that teaser trailer for Superman Returns. It doesn't look very promising. The suit looks like crap and the actor playing Supes, Brandon Routh, looks too young to be returning from anything.

much like the matrix 1. this film had some great takes on modern society, although blown out of proportion (only slightly really) it's annoying watching people see a movie like this and walk away from it thinking it was a wierd concept, and tommorow they'll go back to not questioning anything.
it's really to bad films like this don't inspire people...
SPOILER: in real life no one would have shown up in the end...
well maybe me and two other people, and then we would have been shot.

Yeah. I blame it on the fact that modern society finds the idea of being inspired "lame".

Why do they need to make a superman movie. Superman sucks.
Superman rules. He's super!
And back on topic, I loved V for Vendetta. I'm now planning to buy the graphic novel.

Revan-47 go squish now with a sunshiny super smackdown.
Now that's dealt with... V for Vendetta was excellent. I am a little baffled as to the reason for changing the name of the "Chancellor" from the Graphic Novel when everyone else got to keep theirs. I also felt that the general state of living of the people wasn't sufficiently supressed when comparred with the novel. But I also understand the reasoning for the shifts given the slight shift in the fascist tonality and the more 4 colour approach taken.
It's also a shame that we have to wait for the movie to come out in order to make us think about a topic that was depicted in a grahic novel almost 25 years earlier. Or is it more concerning that it is just a relevant today and can make such a mirrored social commentary. Im torn...
