Well, but isn't that always the way it is? I mean, when was the last time something came out that everyone thought was wonderful and actually was as good as it was said to be?

But I really don't see that you have to play Halo and Halo 2 just to enjoy Halo 3 for it's all out shooting action. If you did, then all the heat brick 360 owners would have to go and buy an xBox (oh look it stays on for longer than 2 hours) console and then get Halo 3. Seriously Microsoft, pcs are more reliable and they are made up of bits and bobs from god knows where, yet a console specifically built to be turned on and then off again has a failure rate of 30-33%???
It is not Yahtzee's fault that Halo 3 has a plot that is not easily followed for people who want to jump in at that point and ignore Halo and Halo 2. It would make more sense if a few skippable cut scenes were added that went over some Halo history to help the new guy.
By the fact that it's Halo and 3 is higher than 1 and 2, you would expect Halo 3 to be better than Halo 1 and Halo 2, and so if you had the choice why would you start with the inferior versions?
I think the review is perfectly valid and as always Yahtzee is talking about what the game industry has become as much as about the game itself.

I always play in chronological order. Or at least try to get the general story so I know what's going on.
Back to more points.
Compared to Halo 2, Halo 3 was an improvement, can we agree on that? There were new features and things in gameplay to make it more interesting. He was comparing on a global scale. That's all good and fair but then he can't talk about the improvements that they've made, just that it is adequete.
And it's not exactly hard to just go on the internet to find out whats going on.
It's not it's own game. It's part of a series.

Because It's the best game to take place on a giant ring in the sky , and its also the best game ever. Its also the only game where you get a floating talking skull for a sidekick.
But where are all the articles saying that Planescape is the cornerstorne of the gaming industry? Fupping fickle press!

Alright, he doesn't float, but I feel that Murray from the Monkey Island games deserves honourable mention in the 'talking skulls in games' category. After all, he was a pioneer in the area, appearing in quite a popular game and simply saying 'This is me, take me or leave me'. and some stuff about death.

The Halo rings were like giant weapons that would wipe out all life in the galaxy/universe until the Flood (the zombies) rotted away to nothing.
The twelve year old girl was... Cortanna (an AI), right? Yeah, there was a story behind her too.
After infiltrating the Covenant (the aliens) base Master Chief left Coratanna there.
I forget why.
The Covenant that were helping humans had recently been exiled for heresay cause they found out that the Halos (the ring) were giant freaking weapons of universal destruction (guns).
You get it now?
Wow. That almost beats Super Mario in terms of originality and plot twists.

Where does your friend live? I want to put a letter bomb through his door for being an idiot!!! Attacking nationality, especially when you decend from this nationality most probably, is ridiculous. Most Americans aren't native, most came over from Britain. Australia and New Zeland are similar. I'm not saying all of the people are from British origin, but a lot are!
