It seems that lately there are these various automated kiosk machines that allow you to rent newly released DVD movies at $1.00 per night.
Ive seen them at many locations, but it escapes my mind trying to recall exactly where.
for those who dont know, its basically a machine that is a little larger than an ATM machine, it has a touchscreen interface and accepts most major credit cards. It allows you to rent the DVD as long as you desire, with the mutual understanding that youre being charged $1.00 per night. So, it would seem that its only a good deal as long as you promptly view and return the film with decent time,.otherwise, you might as well just buy the damn thing.
...and with that last thought, I can imagine that there probably have been episodes of customers who completely forgot to return the DVD after weeks on end..paying over $40 or $50 for the DVD.
I will state that I have never used RedBox, but I was inquiring comments from those that have. Is there a way to report to the machine that youve lost the DVD? If so, does the machine make you pay the full price for it?,.even if youve had the DVD out for more than a reasonable amount of time?
It seems that, theoritically, someone could have the DVD in their possession, and get busy with school or work and forget to return it,.and two months later,.they are trying to finally look for and return the DVD,.and cant find it,..and then they go back to the machine to report it lost,.and that initial $1.00 a night DVD rental,.has charged them for the lost disc at say..$19.99,..plus the time its been out..say 60 days= $60.00,..so that would be close to $80.00!
I hope this isnt how it works.
anyone?

It's called RedRoomDVD here, but it's the same thing.
I got really excited at first because I thought it was a Red Rooster and I haven't live near one for many years... Then I rememberd that they stopped putting a bannana in the hawain pack so I got less excited and more angry. Then I realised it wasn't a Red Rooster at all but some manner of DVD rental place that won't even invite you in. Then I got indifferent and kept moving. Well I was on a bus so I didn't really have a choice.
true story.

We've used that. If it's on the way home at a place where you'd be inclined to stop since it's on your way home anyway, it doesn't seem too bad a deal. Of course you really need to stay in the mood to watch said video That Evening.
As for losing it and having to cough up exuberant fees? That's always been a factor.
