Someone's got to say it:

"I'm definately not buying that strange reviewing game then".

Oh, and what's the bet people start sending Yahtzee angry letters in the hope he'll talk about them and they get some sort of fame?

I did.

I think he went about it pretty tastefully, to be honest. His arguments were good, and as one of those Nintendo fan-boy types who spent hours pointlessly trying to defend the game from his criticisms, I can say that I genuinely agreed with him at the end of it and did not feel insulted.

The new direction was fresh -- I wouldn't want to see it every week, but then again I'm always pleasantly surprised when Yahtzee does something I don't expect him too. I think I theorize about which game he will do, then how he will react, and if it proceeds exactly along those lines then I enjoy it less--like knowing the end to a good book or movie before you watch it.

Someone commented on the actual video that they thought it was better when Yahtzee actually reviewed games and didn't troll the internet. And I've always treated Yahtzee as a video-game oriented Maddox, and in that sense everything he has done can almost be considered trolling, I think.

Trolling is a subjective term used by those being "trolled," I find.

Not terrible, but I find it saddening that whiny Smash fans feel so violated by an Internet review that they need to talk back as if ZP is a debate squad (redundant squabbling is what forums are for, right?)
Personally Brawl bored me to tears after a few weeks, and this is from a self-professed 'that guy.' Within three days of owning Brawl I had unlocked every character and level; and I was about midway through collecting the little unlockable trinkets like a bloodhound ravaging for traces of cocaine when I realised Smash Bros felt terribly worn out. This was because as a former Gamecube owner I had been playing Melee for the past 8 fucking years, based entirely on the fact that it was really the only thing the Gamecube had going for it. I seem to have been harboring a grudge against Nintendo lately, while simultaneously embracing them (a petty attempt to relive the beloved N64 era of my childhood.) Yet like Yahtzee at any opprotunity I will criticize their tendencies to modify and rerelease the same titles over and over. But Nintendo was smart Smash, with virtually a 1:1 console to smash bros game ratio. But the barrage of deja vu titles on the previous generation is now undermining a franchise I theoretically haven't played for years; but of course I have been as I blatantly stated above.
also the single player was lame.

this mini-rant should probably be in the smash bros thread but who the fuck wants to read that thing anymore, its like ten pages.

It has kind of become a catch-all for "person on-line who doesn't agree with/angers/annoys me".

This ZP was a cool change from pace. The letter reading was a bit much, but other than that his arguments were good, especially about if you love the game so much, other people's opinions shouldn't bother you. The "puppy" systems were cute, too.

A+ for the Commodore 64. biggrin.gif

The fact is, it's his gig, and his opinion. If he doesn't like the game, what makes people think that writing him an e-mail calling him gay is going to change that?

Because they are not aware of the facts.

This was awesome, although the addressees will undoubtedly miss the point.

Generally, when I use the term I'm referring to a few activities:

1). Strongly suggesting opposing view point purely in the hopes of creating discussion/controversy.
2). Performing actions designed to irritate users and attempt to create discussion/controversy, including actions such as:
-Rick Rolling
-Posting under a new name, saying something silly
-->i.e. Posting here saying Yahtzee sucks, or on the WoW forums saying that Hunters should be restricted to cloth armor.

I like trolling. It's quite a bit of fun, especially when a group of people is taking themselves far too seriously. Nothing like a good Rick Roll to de-rain a conversation on which Naruto character could beat which DBZ character on AOL anime forums.

I still find it amusing that people take these reviews as seriously as cancer of the medula. Then again, anything that's presented as -entertainment- has to be evil for some people, especially if it's free, and especially if someone else enjoys it (See: TV, Games, Music, Movies, Kicking your dog.)

But, I must say, that makes it all the more enjoyable to be a part of, even if only to read the two or three pages of comments and giggle at people who make fun of the "illerate" people (yes, I saw this in one of the pages.) Until you get to the comments page and it's 660 fucking comments long. Now don't get me wrong, I do believe that Ben has more than earned his right to get 660 fucking comments, but what the hell?

I guess all I'm really trying to say is /hypocrisy "Do people really have to make their opinion -that- heard just because the person they've been religiously watching for months does it and gets money for it, but is actually good at it because he realizes there's a formula to satire, games, and reviews?" /end hypocrisy.

And yes, I meant for that to be long with no stop until the end. It is my duty to exhaust the minds of all forumites!
