Allow me to rephrase for you - would any of you fine, upstanding literate gentlemen or devine educated ladies care to recommend, to my good self, any books of the fantasy genre that will encapsulate and enrapture me?

I stopped reading this series in middle school, so I don't really have anything to add, except the first book (which is reread once or twice) is cool.
CJM: Is that really on topic? Well, I went to the bookstore today looking for The Illuminatus! by Robert Anton Wilson, but instead I found Darwinia by Robert Someotherguy Wilson, which looks pretty cool. (Darwinia is also a game, apparently. I don't think they're related.)

It's the greatest thing ever....
Seriously go and pick up a copy of Á Game of Thrones' right this bloody second. I challange you to to finish the first book and still care about anything else in your life afterwards.

Just tried to read through the whole series again. I figured I should at least know what's going on when the mammoth final book comes out. By the time book eight rolled around, I was fed up. The dull, one-dimensional characters, sloth-like pace and eye-gouging gender relationships were too much to bear. I'm through with the Wheel of Time. It's not like I'll really be missing out, since we already pretty much know how it ends, thanks to the Prophecies of the Dragon and Min's visions.

While I respect Robert Jordan and the vision he had for his series I found myself lost after the eighth book. The series started to become a soap opera with all the female angst and overempowerment propaganda. Throw that in with all the prophecies and the confusion of it all and I am done with the series. I haven't picked up a Wheel of Time book in a long time because of this. I don't think I will ever again for that matter.
I'm pretty much reading the classic Robert Howard Conan short stories and finishing up Terry Brooks' Genesis of Shannara run.
