I will either throw away or sell the 2004 editions in both packages (the first and this DVD release).
I will take the single disc cases and put the REAL, ORIGINAL, UNALTERED, UNMOLESTED, 1977, 1980, 1983 versions of the original three classics into them accordingly.
I will never have to worry about the PT or SE crap again!

Yay indeed for OT goodness, but I have my reservations like SithAvenger does. Hopefully it's as simple and grand as it sounds, but I'm always prepared for the worst, just in case.
Oh, and what's this midichlorine you speak of? Is it some sort of sound file embedded in a pool chemical?

Indeed. Also, he isn't optimizing the picture/sound quality (no anamorhic picture, no 5.1 sound ). So there is a little "fuck you" message to the O-OT fans from Lucas. Or maybe he doesn't understand the difference between digitally cleaning the original vs. adding horrible CGI...
"Anyone think that Lucas's attitude to the original versions of Star Wars is a little like some tyranical father who makes his daughters dress ugly so that no man will want them?"
Stick with the laserdiscs or wait for the Blu Ray version in 2010...

I'll probably end up buying both versions, just because I'm impatient.

There's no way I'm buying these shoddy, inferior 1993 laserdisc dump-versions. This is just the latest in a series of "fuck you" moves by Lucas. Here's a quote from mtv.com:
"he says he's curious to see what the reception will be for the upcoming limited-edition DVD release of the three original "Star Wars" films (see "Three Original 'Star Wars' Films (Finally) Coming To DVD — But Not For Long"). "It's just the original versions, as they were," Lucas said. "We didn't do anything to it at all. But we're not sure how many people want that."
You might say quite a few, considering how many fans were angered by the digitized, expanded updates of episodes IV, V and VI. Lucas claims he's not re-releasing the originals to appease fans, but rather to bate them. "Now we'll find out whether they really wanted the original or whether they wanted the improved versions," he said. "It'll all come out in the end."
It's rather obvious that he's thinking that because so many people are going to refuse to buy low-quality versions of the originals, that he'll be able to say "see? You people said you wanted the orginals, and now you're not buying them after all! I was right about the 2004 versions being superior all along!"
What an unmitigated asshole.

UPDATE: I was alerted to the fact that all the original STAR WARS films were released as 70mm experiences during their releases, which would mean they did have a 6-channel audio mix originally, so the 2-channel stereo only option on the DVD just became officially ridiculous.
may he get a fist in his rape hole.
but i'm buying them...
