And if PJ decides to do another trilogy tuesday sort of thing, with all three extended editions, I will be out there sitting and waiting to go watch (hopefully!) 13 hours of LOTR. There is nothing else worth camping out for anymore; I doubt episode 3 will even warrant a midnight viewing, let alone camping out for a day.
I think PJ deserves an oscar. Maybe not necessarily for ROTK, but for the trilogy. Since he hasn't gotten one yet, I say now is a great time for it.

in AOTC, the death stick scene is just embarrassing. besides the points chef raises, we KNOW what obi-wan is doing with the mind trick and all.
move along (move along)
in ROTK, Merry's confronting Pippin about his smoking too much doesn't wrap up tidily. rather, it addresses addiction with heartfelt concern. (I don't remember that scene from the book, but) unlike CLONES, I didn't predict how the scene would play out.

But I thought that Merry and Pippin being high was hilarious, the way they were both giggling and eating everything at Isengard. I loved it.
Maybe that's why Pip liked the Palantir so much, because he was wasted and liked the pretty lights inside swirling around.

at the end of the Two Towers (EE), Merry and Pippin find two large barrels of pipe weed! he smoked a whole barrel in a few days! but Merry's a bit of a hypocrit, cause he wasn't far behind. besides which pipe weed tobaccy is a little wacky and a barrel a day can't be good. I don't think Merry was making a health call, i think he was more concearned that Pippin didn't make the first supply they had come across in over a year last...
SWs' death sticks are apperently not cigarettes, that substantionatley shorten your life everytime you smoke one and i belive halucinations are involved... (i can't find the place i got this from).

Yeah that's my opinion too, he deserves an oscar for what he's done, and also I think deserved one for TTT, though I haven't seen Pianist and can't argue with Polansky getting it. Unfotunately it will be for what I think is the weakest, but as you say, he deserves it for the achievement of the trilogy.

"And Moses said unto the world, Let all Star Wars fanboys eat second hand cow rectum and be sacrificed to Satan, Bob Saget!"

I'd like to see the Bob Saget version of JEDI, and possibly TPM.
you know, the roar of the crowd when Ewoks perform dutifully. Especially when the one slingshots himself. I really don't know the banter Saget uses, I despise that program, have never intentionally watched it. but maybe two wrongs could make a right? OF COURSE, JEDI is a wonderful film. So what would it hurt to add a little cheerleading?
And I suggest JEDI because of it's attempt with lame humor. cheesy sound effects would heighten the hilarity. TPM takes itself so damned seriously, it wouldn't be nearly as effective. might as well try to liven up cspan.

Well, seeing as how ROTK (or any part of the trilogy) was not nominated for any acting awards, supporting or otherwise, I figure it would be pretty hard for them to win any acting awards. But you know, that's just my opinion. Most of the nominations ROTK recieved were for technical things, like sound editing and crap like that.
And as you said, there were a lot of speaking parts in the movie, and it would be hard to narrow it down to one or two outstanding performances. Everyone talks about Sean Astin and how great he was, but I really didn't think it was outstanding or anything. But you said it more eloquently than I can-
