First of all for Goddess' sake never go and look up the lyrics to "Isengard Unleased" I opened the page and got hit with more adware and viruses than I've had in all my years of internet surfing. I deleted hundreds of files it created and no less than five programs it put on my comp and then got rid of all the adware and spyware. It took four hours to find it all with Ad-aware se. When I restarted I had no cursor and only sixteen bit graphics. I deleted the mouse from my system (I run win98se) and then reinstalled it. It worked so I went to happily change my color settings back. I've done it five times and it never gives me an error message or anything it just dosn't change.

So I decided that this virus set had attacked my drivers. So I reloaded my monitor and tried to update the driver. No such luck. In my system area it says that neither the monitor nor the video card (a cirrus logic 5434 which apparently doesn't exist anywhere but my comp) are having problems so I'm not sure what's wrong. This 16 bit crap is driving me mad, help!

I'm going to try that. I hadn't been able to find any info on my video card online so I'm really glad you located that driver. I'll install it and see what happens. If that dosn't help I'm going to go into my my computer/control panel/system and remove the video card and then let the computer find it again and reload all the drivers for it. The only reason I havnt done that yet is I'm deathly afraid it will mess up my computer since I've never messed with video cards before.

Ok... I'm not shutting down my computer until I get help with this. I went into system and then device manager and removed my display adapter (aka video card) then I tried to reinstall it but it wouldnt appear in the device manager. What is going on here? This seems to be going from bad to worse! If I shut down my computer and start back up will it notice the display adapter and, ya know, work? Or will the monitor not come online at all forcing me to kill myself?

Also, I tried to contact microsoft for tech support. Windows ninety eight is six years old. Thus it is out of date. Thus to receive support for something I bought from them will cost me 35 dollars a call. I understand now why Bill Gates is universally reviled.

Yeah, '98 is the worst thing in the world.

Try uninstalling the drivers, then removing the device. Then reboot and install the new drivers when it asks for them.

It could also be your motherboard's chipset drivers affecting it. What did you do right before this started happening?

Ooooh yeah I got my color settings back. It turned out to be the display adapter and all I had to do was restart and it reinstalled it. Unfortuantely I also messed with the monitor so I had to reload its drivers too. Now I'm seeing the forum the way it was meant to be seen! Thanks Chef. Actually XP is the worst thing in the world from what I understand.
