This was the final proof I needed to confirm you're German.

I know that was supposed to be a joke, but seriously, don't you ever try to push your favourite series into the face of your friends and hope it will stick? Like Zero Punctuation, have you never forced anyone to watch it? I did at work, and my colleagues loved it (although most of them aren't gamers).

In Germany, EVERYONE seems to hate Buffy. That is because the dubbing in German TV of Buffy is so extremely horrible, every character is translated and voiced with a totally different feeling and emotion. Not only how they speak, but look at this:

English version Giles: "Bay City Rollers. Now, that's music."
German version: "Mozart & Beethoven, now that's music." Totally different meaning!? And that particular character talks like a detached arrogant butler (Germany's interpretation of a British accent).

I mean, everyone here loves 24 but thinks Buffy sucks. So I took 3 or 4 friends, and (on different nights) watched some key english episodes with them. All changed their mind, some even bought all seasons on DVD. That's what I meant.

Sorry I am keeping this thread going with too long posts, although there isn't actually any potential for discussion here. *sits down and shuts up*

If you define "sad" as "honest".

If you mean by honest that thanks to the anonymous character of the Internet, people can be as rude and nasty as they like without any consequences, like in Kindergarten when the whip woman is taking a wee, then I agree.

Somehow I respect Yahtzee and I would only post here with respect to him because I like his work and think he is a cool guy. And somehow this extends to other fans of him, I don't know why but I catch myself thinking I should be nice to other fans of ZP, because they must be cool guys in a way. That's what I mean.

Generally I try to talk to people on the internet like I talk to them in person. With a bit of respect. Yes I know, ZP is great because of the shit throwing, but an actual tatoo on somebody is something very personal and I wouldn't go to actual people and say "your face is extremely ugly". I couldn't bring myself to do that. But on the Internet, I think some people feel they can do whatever they want.

It is true in a way, but do we have to bring down Yahtzee's forum to that level?

There is always the option of tatooing over it some day. And what can I say - you are a fan, you get yourself a tatoo of your idol, you go to that very idol's own forum, you post your tattoo. And bucketloads of people insult you for it. Where else could somebody hope for any understanding if not here? Internet is a sad thing.

Hmm. This forum is really interesting. It's not so easy to actually talk about things, because somehow everyone here a) thinks he is funny or cool.gif is funny. And so every thread I saw so far turns into lunacy.

We can happily let this thread die, as it's not really going anywhere. Sorry, I was lured to open a thread after listening to that podcast.

Taste cannot really be discussed. I think from my perspective as a some kind of writer or creative producer of sorts, 2 or possibly 3 seasons of Buffy (Somewhere between 3 and 5 1/2 or so), when watched as one epic story, feels very well done. Me and my friends convinced a few other (very Anti-Buffy) friends by shock therapy, and afterwards they were totally hooked. I think for a rather modern series the character development is very deep and well-done.

I think you have to compare this to other serieseses. Where is the standard.

I know how Buffy looks if you have seen only season 1, or a few episodes here and there. I hated Buffy back then. There are a few key episodes who convinced everyone I tried them on (tried this like 3 or 4 times) and created some heavy fans.

I know that the series ended in a meh, season 7 is quite average.

At the same time I admit that the criticism is valid (though it does not spoil my fun).

And I admit that Angel sucks by definiton, because 3 generally rather disliked characters were taken from Buffy to form their own series. (oh dear)

But, as I am told, Angel turns good as soon as Joss joined te team (Season 5 especially, which is supposed to be one long story over all episodes with a lot of twists and so on). I still have to watch it, the DVDs are waiting next to my TV.

Sorry that my posts are so long. smile.gif

Do they hand out those drugs in this forum, or are we supposed to bring our own?
