I have a horrible feeling if I owned a record store, I wouldn't sell anything because I'd only order what I wanted, and argue with anyone who wanted anything else.

Hmmm... I did a little looking around but couldn't find anything, and I'm not willing to persue the matter further as it doesn't really scratch and itch I have... Their orignal singer was a guy named John Spence so maybe it was under the same name or a side project or something I don't know. All I know is I went into a record store and asked what was playing and the guy behind the desk pulled out a CD with mad magazinesque cover and said "this is the guys from no doubt before they had the chick singing"
John Spence committed suicide before No Doubt ever made a record. Gwen Stefani was always with the band. Your record store owner source was probably cuckoo.

No doubt...
like I said. Someone dangled a CD infront of me and said it was so... I don't care if he were right or wrong as it no way reflects badly on me to have been misinformed about a band I have no interest in.

Are you denying the quality of No Doubt's music, my good sir?
I'm denying it outright based on two things:
1) 99% of all ska/punk is terrible.
2) 99% of the punk-influenced music that makes it onto commercial radio is terrible.
3) No Doubt will likely go down in history as one of the most bland, derivative bands in the history of mankind. Even when they underwent their little "makeover" and started playing electronic-influenced stuff, they were still just ripping off the 80s synthpop and new wave scenes.

He may not have been wrong mr.bond. HE may have been just partially right.
as far as ska goes... Fishbone is where it's at.

Not a massive Fishbone fan. (with the exception of 'Party at Ground Zero', but if you don't like that, you must be dead) I've got their best of, which get's a listen occasionally, but in my opinion there's better Ska bands.

Well, Fishbone doesn't really fall into the catigory of a 'ska band'
They're a bit of everything with a lot of variety in general. they'll do a metal song then a punk song then a ska song, then whatever.
I never actually got around to picking up part at ground zero...
