so, based upon your input, who would you suggest as candidates for consideration for the role of the Riddler for a CN directed film?
I have four ideas of who could play a good Riddler:
1) Alan Rickman: This guy can brood! He is awesome as Snape in the Harry Potter films, and I haven't seen a film yet where he could not play the part. He is best as a serious character that can make an audience think, not by what he says, but how he can portray emotion with just a glance, sneer, etc. However, because he's with the HP franchise, who knows if he'd have time for Batman, or would anyone live it down that "Snape is the Riddler!"
2) Julian Sands: Some of you may recognize this guy. He was in the "Warlock" films in the early 90's and has been playing in various films as a supporting character here and there. I choose him though because of his ability to be very serious and dark, all while showing a side of genius and intelligent charm.
3) Jason Isaacs: Heh, another from the HP franchise. Most will recognize him as Draco Malfoy's dad, Lucius. This guy is awesome because not many people know/recognize him, and he can act really well. The Riddler is a thinking character and this guy could most probably pull it off without any problems because of his nonchalant demeanor and I imagine he could toy with Batman with only a slight sneer of accomplishment.
4) Jeremy Irons: This guy has the voice that would be convincing and the sadistic mannerisms to really fit into a Batman film. You may recognize him from "Die Hard: With a Vengeance" and the voice of Scar from the "Lion King." This guy can be a villain and act out with believability as of why he's doing what he's doing.
These are my thoughts as to what would make a believable Riddler, not just some comic character that is quite frankly, another Joker. The problem with the older Batman films is it seemed that another Joker was needed. Joel Schumaker's Riddler was just another Joker. Schumaker's Mr. Freeze was just another Joker in a sense. Now with CN's Batman, we don't need another Joker, we need a more serious character that can be more dangerous and intelligent rather than impulsive and chaotic, but not
another Ras al Gul.
