Ahumm!
The reason Christians have pagan holidays, is because, they simply adapted them into the religion so it would be an easier sell. Plus, most of the current "Christians" come from pagan cultural worlds where Easter/Oester and Christmas/Jule (we still use that word in Iceland) were big celebrations.
HAH! I'm smart
Ooooh, and Friday the 13th originates from the extermination of the Templars, because that happened on friday the 13th.

Easter is a mispronounciation (or whatever) of Eostre (or whatever), the pagan fertility goddess. Rabbits, eggs, and flowers are all fertility symbols. They are clearly nothing to do with Jesus or his death/ressurections.
So.....
How the hell did the two end up linked? Christians seemed to develop a habit of stealing other people's holidays, but what the fuck? You might have thought that Christians would have stamped out all that fertility stuff when they were insisting that Jeezus rose on that day hundreds of years ago, and so forth. How have they explained away chocolate bunnies and eggs for so long?

THEY MIGHT HAVE DONE.
Anyway, the question is still valid.
Hey, when you were a kid, did you do that thing where you got eggs and boiled them in dye and took the shell off and the egg inside was all blue or something? That was cool. I was never allowed to eat them though.

Let's hear it for Rhubarb...
Actually, if you want to hear about religious plagarism, the Romans quite literally stole the Greek religion - kept the same gods, myths and things, but changed all the names.
Never done painting eggs, so boiling them would be damn hard...

I used to do the egg-dying thing with my brothers when I was really little, but I would always get pissed off to some degree because I could never do those nifty swirly design things you always see in the pictures. Pretty much all there was to do was fill a few coffee mugs with food coloring, and drop an egg in (well, slowly lower an egg in, if we dropped it in it would normally crack and my mom would yell at us not to make a mess on the table), for a few minutes and just sit there waiting. All that work (boredom) just to get one boring solid-colored lump of hard-boiled egg.
After a while we just decided to skip the eggs and go straight to the candy. No one disagreed.

We did the egg dying at school once. I took home 4 very beautiful and artistically coloured eggs and the rotten bastards broke them up and ate them straight away. I kept mine for ages, the nicest one...then it mysteriously disappeared.

I fell like I got ripped off, all we where allowed to do was crayon colour them in.
Anyways, on the note of religious holidays, apparently they changed Jesus birthday from September sometime to December cause the Pagans already had some festival then.
