GOOD moments from the prequels There are some, I admit

I can think of several other bits from PM that I think are good. Shmi Skywalker's telling her son "don't look back" is memorable. Obi-Wan's line about picking up "another pathetic life-form" is at least good for a laugh and is one of the few instances in the movie where Ewan McGregor gets to exercise his appealing sense of humour. I can't think of a damn thing that's any good from AOTC, though.

I love liam neison. i don't know why... i just find him a comforting precence on screen... and he and Ewan, had the relation ship that anikan and obiwan should have had.
-----------------------------------
personal picks:
Christopher Lee, Ray Park... and seen with them in it was worth watching.
outside of that... the noise those depth charge type explosives made in AOTC that Jenga dropped. they where the coolest sound since the hypnotoad.

In TPM, darth maul and the opening doors was classic.
In AOTC, at the end of the fireplace scene, anakin looks up and says "it would destroy us", with the music in a very forboding tone moving to a dark rainy setting. a moment I feel that worked very well.

But as for Episode III, there is a scene where Obiwan has befriended his cadre of clone troopers, and having an intimate chat with one aparently. Soon after the order comes to kill Obiwan and without thinking the Clone whips out his blaster and Obiwan kills him. Now depending on how this scene is done, it fascinates me. If it is done well, I will have to humble myself for a moment, just one moment mind you, and say that this scene could be good. Why? This idea of a scene where Obiwan as a human being becomes friends with mindless militants and then these mindless militants turn on him immediately wihout thinking--hits home. I will be excited to view Episode III soley for this reason.(And not paying for it). I think this actually would be a good scene in a Star Wars film, to make the killing more horrifying. If he does leave this scene in, George Lucas has won one miniscule point with me--but it depends on how it is done.

the jedi pull off their hoods on the federation ship
"I'm not going in there with two jedi! (pause) send the droid"
Sidious appears
the ship is destroyed
jedi ignite their sabres for the first time
slicing the droids to bits (that looks SO satisfying)
Qui Gon begins tearing up the door
the droidekas appear
Wait a minute, i'm just going through the film scene by scene here...
Theres about a million parts that I like. Some as dumb throwaway stuff ("blast, this is why i hate flying!") as well as more 'serious' stuff (Anakin saying goodbye to his mother, Shmi dying in his arms etc.)

The massive jedi-vs droid battle in ep2 had SO much potential that it makes me sick. Instead of feeling more like "The Alamo" it felt like just pointless slaughter of droid and Jedi alike. The antics of c3p0 are unforgivable.

In AotC: The sandcrawler sunset scene on Tatooine. Taken out of context of course.
Best scene prediction for RotS: "Are you threatening me Master Jedi?"

Here's a simple rewrite that would have been funnier and done a better job of settin up Anakin's Character:
QUI-GON: Perhaps I killed a Jedi and took it from him.
ANAKIN: I wish that were so.
QUI-GON give ANAKIN a strange look.
I agree it's a little more bleak. The sonic charges were pretty cool.

*guffaw* I can't help myself, that is funny.
It occurs to me that, insufferable and even unwatchable as he was (and I blame mostly Lucas's dialogue for that), Jake Lloyd was more believable at being creepy and vaguely threatening than Hayden Christiansen could ever be.

If I'm honest with myself, I have to admit that there were times in the prequels where the movie threatened to become entertainment. Vague shadows of talent on the sewer wall that looked gargantuan, only to be revealed as disease-infested, effluent-covered rats jonesin' for a death stick. Part of the hate comes from the waste and the missed opportunities of a delicate soul encased in the unarguable vindication of the Benjamins.
The beginning of Phantom Menace was an initial thrill. Whatever else I might say, Lucas still knows how to manipulate technical elements and smash them into a certain visual "feel". Its recognizable on a basic, reptile brain-stem level. The magic spell was broken the moment those trade federation rubes started talking. Its like taking the oligarchy in charge of General Motors and replacing it with Bill and Ted. The sensation of wonder turned into the bloodcurdling emotional plummet you feel when you realize the next track section on the roller coaster you are riding is missing.
"This one's gonna bruise, Beth."
In Attack of the Clones, when Dooku fired the force lightning at Obi Wan and the plucky jedi absorbed it, I felt that *that was awesome*. At last, after suffering through a movie mostly composed of Young Frankenstein parts (sans Mel Brooks competence), we are finally going to see *somebody* kick some roh-sham-boh. Sadly, this brief flicker of excitement was extinguished by a combination of usual Lucas sucker-punching of audience power (as in the power to enjoy without his consent, Oh! Lucas, so subtle and deep is your contempt for us) by playing the indestructible villain card at the least appropriate moment. Christopher Lee's presence is so formidable that even this hack maneuver *almost* fails. If Lucas had known who he was dealing with and tried to blow it the scene would have been a brilliant come-down of audience expectation.
Simply being a jedi master who knows how to act in a stinker, Lee lends so much credibility by not trying that even Lucas cannot make us hate him by revealing him to be unstoppable. Lee, as the Count of Crap with a Wicker Man intellectual mastery like unto the primordial respect for excrement as a source of creativity is *obviously* invincible. Its the one part of the film that is believable, given the poor performance of the real and digital actors he does battle with. When Lucas can manufacture absolutely inspired pieces of utter garbage on the Mari-Cookie level then maybe he can intentionally sabotage Christopher Lee's mastery.
"Surely you can do better, Lucas!"
So what will Lucas do as compensation for his Schwartz-incompetence against Lee's leering respect for naked virgins dancing over a fire and making it Beavis-cool? Yup, in the third movie, Lee gets one-shoted by Anakin as punishment for being good at what he does. Something similar happened to Lee in another movie trilogy, I believe.
*end spoiler*
So yeah, I'm a sucker. I want to believe. I lead with my jaw and get brass-knuckled by a walking hagen-daaz neck-rival for Rocky Horror and his brief fumbles, where in the moment it takes him to fill his hand with his own excrement and have another fling at the human staring at his "hard work" in the movie-cage, nature is allowed to take it course and I see a glimpse of those naked virgins.
Then I get "monkey-shiner'd" again.
Thank you sir, may I have another!

Another good moment, I hate to admit, was the lightsaber duel in TPM. Although I hated Darth Maul and thought Qui Gon should never exist, that duel was something really beautiful. Well, I really think it was!
But I THINK the best moment of all three movies will be in the third. Of course it depends on how it will be presented, but the fight between Anakin and Dooku will probably be the best moment (FOR ME) in the third movie, for all I have read and seen. Because... it will be fascinating to compare this fight with the one between Luke and Vader in ROTJ... I think this will be the moment to show in what Luke and Anakin were different, and how...
Sad to say is, if this scene really REALLY works, it will be a quick great moment in a stupid unnecessary movie that is ending a stupid unnecessary trilogy!

You know, I think Yoda only learned that the day before the council meeting. He's a late-bloomer Jedi Master and all....
