I hadn't heard that Duke3d was 2.5d, I thought 2.75d ot something, to differentiate itself from the much better, but more primitive 2.5d Doom.

Wolfenstein was the true 2.5D game without textural lightning or those fancy room-over-rooms.

However I don't see why we still need to see side-scrollers or Mario games these days. Mario and Kirby should've died in the 90s.

Duke3D was actually 2.99 (recurring) D.

Only real reason why there is still side-scrollers: They're pretty easy to make. I've made 3D games, even though its only one extra dimension, it takes a lot longer to implement than the first two. Honestly, not trying to boast here by I've made full 2D games in a single afternoon before.

It was? Even without any element of height beyond graphics? Hmm...

I get that suspicious feeling that the bit about The Lost Vikings humping Little Big Adventure is going to haunt me in my nightmares...

So, in conclusion, it wasn't a 2.5D hoedown at all?
It was a 3D background platformer hoedown?

I thought Diablo 2 or Fallout was considered 2.5D?

< :geek: >Nope, they use an isometric viewpoint. A bit of perspective included, but hardly "real" 3D. </ :geek: >

Finally, I was wondering what he'd have to say about Trine.

Side-scrollers (or whatever they call them these days) are getting revived, thanks to this thing called nostalgia.

Eh, it'll die out soon, like all other arcade games and hopefully fighting games would die an undignifying death too.

(I am very cruel).
