If that was his promise, then I believe I will continue to read the WOT books until they are finished. I'm at the 730th page of his fourth book (I'm a slow reader) and I hope to finish it before 2006. I really need to get done with the series so I can get to reading Terry Pratchett again.

Also, don't worry about complaining about his style because it's familiar. When you've read several books by the same author (and even the same series) we get these. After finishing 12 books (plus two prequels) whatever other author would be a refreshing differance! biggrin.gif

Paladin, my advice to you is STOP after the fourth book. The Fires of Heaven is like an ingrown toenail. In a book.
And we want to be free to ride our machines without being hassled by the man! And we want to get loaded!

While I'm sure you're well intentioned with your request, I really can't do it since I've already bought books 5-10 (and the prequel) so I'm pretty much obliged to read it regardless.

One thing that I hope gets better is Nynave's (misspelt) temper. At first I thought her anger makes her likeable, but after a while I got tired of her constant fuming and railing.

If you do continue with books 5-10 you will find yourself saying this a great deal more about a great deal more aspects of the books. I will not give away anything of the story as you wish to continue reading them, but I will tell you that there is one book that you could basically skip if you wished as there is so little advancement of any of the story throughout the entire book it is like watching a day time soap opera after not seeing it for many weeks - you discover that it's only the next day.

I have not read the last book because I was so offended by the crap that Jordan dished out in the last couple of books I cannot bring my self to part with any money and thus line his already fat purse.

That's probably a fairly individualistic thing to answer. Some people really go for plot, other are captured by style or characterisation. All these things can enhance or ditract from a book if they are done well or screwed up. Of course this also is a matter of opinion. Some people love the plot in Jordan's novels for example because they are far reaching and detailed and yadda yadda yadda. I'm not one of those as you may have noticed.

Really, it's in the personal choice of the reader. If it engages you then in many ways it's good because it has appealed to what you are looking for in a book. And this could be due to any of the above.

Right, update-o of Del topic-o. Just reading the secind WoT book, and loving it so far. He does have a few daft traits mentioned above, but it's part of his style and his world. What world isn't flawed in some way? Or what book? The true definition of a good book/person/thing is it's ability to offer so much enjoyment as to make you forget or ignore the faults. Well, kinda biggrin.gif

Did he finish the series before he died? I quit after either nine or ten was so awful. It 3/4 of the book was following the vanity and politics of the Aes Sedai, and people were reincarnating, and wtfblargh?

I couldn't read past the 10th book; the plot moved at such an unbearable crawl. Another fine case of a writer who got too popular and felt he no longer needed an editor. I'm sorry he died without finishing it, but there's better fantasy out there.

I was waiting to see if he'd finish the series before getting myself involved. Now I'm releived I waited.

If something happens to George RR Martin before he finishes his Song of Ice and Fire series I'll absolutley go on a killing spree.
