Lucas Mocks Spider Man 3 Instead of himself

On Spiderman 3: "It's silly. It's a silly movie," he said. "There just isn't much there. Once you take it all apart, there's not much story, is there?"
"People thought 'Star Wars' was silly, too," he added, with a wink. "But it wasn't."

It seems like everyone is over the nitpicking. Too bad.

I laugh at his attempt to redeem himself.

Well, Spider-Man 3 really is crap, but then again, George Lucas saying it's crap doesn't quite sit well with me...
"Once upon a time, musta been 'round October, few years back, in one o' dose TOP SECRET LAB-MOTORIES de gubbnint keep stashed away underneath Virginia, an EVIL PRINCE, occasion'ly employed as a part-time THEATRICAL CRITICIZER set to woikin' on a plot fo de systematic GENOCIDICAL REMOVE'LANCE of all unwanted highly-rhythmic individj'lls an' sissy-boys!" (Prologue, Thing-Fish)

Um, everybody already knows Spider-Man 3 is silly. If there's any doubt, just look at Saturday Night Emo Peter Parker With Chair Jumping Action. The movie mocks itself so often that I can't see this as mocking.
However, everybody already knows that there isn't much intelligent or serious about the SW movies. The originals were cutting edge special effects action movies that stole heavily from [insert culture element here]. The prequels were excuses to pump out merchandise and alienate people who grew up on the originals. *shrug*

If he was talking about the original "Star Wars" maybe...
But when you get down to it and forget all the Joseph Campbell spouting BS... it's really just a dumb movie about space wizards and explosions.
And if he wants to talk about some of his recent work... hmm... Phantom Menace wasn't "silly"? Attack of the clones wasn't "silly"?
Really? Hmmm!
Episode II even "won" a Razzie. Great job Lucas! You're so much "better" than those guys who made the (admittedly silly, but successful) Spider-Man 3!
