Are the forums dieing? You must have all noticed

I've noticed a significant trend in internet forums over the last two years. Forums of "nerds", be they Star Wars, roleplaying, or video game nerds, have slowly declined, while message boards for more "normal" people have grown. For example-
"Nerdy" forums I frequent
Dicetroll (previously Black Orc, where I found Chyld; a miniature gaming forum)- declining
PvPgames (a somewhat hardcore MMO PvP guild forum)- almost dead
Less is More (Chyld's forum that consisted of Chyld, a mad Dutchman, and several other random loons)- dead
The official Games Workshop forums (I never used them, but they count as once major and definately nerdy)- dead
"Non-nerdy" forums I frequent
Sonlight forums (discussion of Christian homeschooling texts and life. I read it to mock people)- growing consistantly
Nanovirtue (writer forum, not very nerdy)- growing
Perhaps the true nerd is beginning to move on to other forms of expression, like the live voicechat server? Or maybe the anti-mainstream element of nerds is perceiving forums as mainstream, and thus avoids them? The aging thing is also a factor. The generally time-loaded yet literate mid-teenager who frequented forums in their early days has become a busy work-college-other stuff adultish person. Odds are all three. The forum fad does seem to be thinning down overall though.
I remember when forums were just text, or when they banned you for having an avatar bigger than a postage stamp. Then came sigs and picture sigs and animated sigs and it all went to tasteless hell.

that sounds like a challenge to me.
actually, no. just no.
Remember Emu's face, people; one day it's going to be on the news alongside a headline about blowing some landmark to smithereens, and then we can all sigh and say, "She was such a normal person".....
....We'd be lying though.

Maybe Chyld and I could have another post race, just like we had The Great Post Race of...whenever the hell we did that. Then again, Chyld would have an unfair advantage of a head start, and the only time I like unfair advantages is when I have them.
Then again, we would probably have most of you after our blood by the end of it...
But if you want a throw back to "The Days of Olde", how's this for you?

Who remembers 'word of the day' thread?
I did my part, I started a cool topic on how the afghan war may be a means to help bolster the drug market, but nobody showed me love on that.
So, for the sake of arguement, if the forums are dieing it's YOUR FAULT, not mine.
Sorry civ, I never read the bottom of the page to find your birthday. But whats the point of celebrating a day that you just officially aged by another year? I know my birthday is a time of saddness, I reflect what i've done in my life and want to cry.
