QUOTE (HackSlacka @ May 18 2009, 05:22 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>This story disturbed the living fuck out of me. And I found that my hands were still shaking a good few minutes after reading.
Jesus!
Thank you!
Yahtzee should really write more of this kind of thing. That story was vivid and scary as hell. I thought it was fantastic.
As for everyone else, this is what apathy does to folks. This is why you should love your kids. This forum is sort of like a forgotten allyway of the internet.

QUOTE (Game Over @ May 18 2009, 01:57 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>Nice to see you again.
Your last appearance was probably on yootube.
Can't say I'm a big fan of radiohead.
You actually watched those, huh?
Well, what can I say? You don't gotta love Radiohead, but that won't stop me.
Ello folks. -

QUOTE (Gobbler @ May 18 2009, 12:36 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>I'd say that just about uses up this month's budget for rhetorical questions.
Don' t worry, I got some surplus left over from last month. I think I got enough to go around too, who wants one?QUOTE (Gobbler @ May 18 2009, 12:36 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>Also, I appreciate your opinion, but if that's enough to get you scared then
OH GOD THERE'S A BIG BLOTCHY SPIDER CRAWLING OUT OF DAVID-KYO'S MOUTH!
EEEEEKKK! !!

Wasn't this thread supposed to be about that story Yahtzee wrote?
Has anyone read it? Anyone besides me at least?
Well, either way, I'm going to say what I thought about it. Where else, right?
Full disclosure, I have never actually read Lovecraft, so the fact that this could be considered Lovecraft-Lite doesn't bother me. AND I'm one of those people who is terrified of every horror movie ever made, anywhere, ever. So take my opinion for what it's worth.
The shallow characterization doesn't really hurt this story any: the people are kind of not the point. They fulfill their function well enough and they don't distract from the real power here, which is the atmosphere, the imagery, and the overall sense of being powerless in some unending nightmare you can't understand or escape.
And it works. It works really, really well. So well I was half-way through reading the story, looked down and realized I'd bitten my nails off.
This is the kind of story that sticks with you. It has you looking at that steak you were going to cook for dinner and unwillingly imagining what it would be like to walk on a floor of the damn stuff. That makes you think of something other then ears, noses, or eyebrows when someone says the word "piercings." That conjures this cloud of dread that sticks with you, even after you're done reading it. A cloud that kind of kills any ability to talk about it after the fact because there's not much to say about it. Besides, "holy crap" and "wow."
In short, this story scared the crap out of me and it's one of the most powerful things Yahtzee has ever written (that I've read, anyway). Screw that sky pirate/accountant story: THIS is the kind of shit he could/should get published. Holy fuck.
Alright, ranting done. I'm going to cook pasta for dinner instead, and try not to think about masses of cartilage with feelers on their undersides... -

QUOTE (Casual @ Jan 15 2009, 06:00 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>You are indeed a very strange person. Though apparently persuasive too.
Not intentionally.
Convo went thus:
Me: Hey, check out this vid!
Them: Lolololol that's great! < (paraphrasing)
Me: Mod see this video?
Mod (who makes the site's banners): Yeah, but I'm NOT replacing Tom with a sandwich on the banners.
Me: Aw, not even a little sandwich? <(kidding)
Mod: Oh ok, but just for today.
Me: Wow you really did it...
Everyone else on the forum: WTF?
And that's how it went.
