By the way, has anyone noticed that in 5DAS if you stay in the drained pool for long enough, you get to hear the footsteps sound effect. Not sure about the creaking door, but maybe I wasn't long enough still. Now that's what I call creepy - a creaking door at the bottom of the pool! cool.gif

It seems that I arrived at the dream stage as well...

A few nights ago I had a series of dreams (that is, have one dream, wake up, fall asleep, part 2... yes, that actually happens to me pretty often), the longest of which revolved around a space station. It was so big that one required a mini-shuttle to move around it. There was also a way to get around using elevators, but I knew at the back of my mind that it was real slow and only used when no other means available. Actually, the mini-shuttle I remember looked a lot like a small version of the Charisma ship from 7DAS.

Anyway, the station suddenly had a power cut, and it was all dark, except for some ambient light just to let me see the dream. In some parts, I would see through the character's eyes (even though in the main part of the dream the protagonist was male), in some - have a third-person view akin to the games. I think I was touring the ship looking for survivors apart from those that were already cowering in the main room. Eventually I ended up using the elevators. In one room I entered there was a corpse. I left the room, and my shadow looked like a hulking, somewhat stooped figure with an axe. I panicked and ran back in the elevator. When I got out on another floor, there was another corpse, and now the character looked like the Welder (just like the TN hallucination).

The next part of the dream was a few chapters ahead, when apparently the survivors got rescued, and I was among them, a female this time. We were all in a bus going down a street, when suddenly large ginger-colored rats started to get in through every hole. There was a gun in the bus, but people ended up mostly shooting themselves when trying to shoot the rats. Then a really big one tried to get in through the roof opening, and my character shot it - and ended up shooting a guy that in the dream was her boyfriend. Then I remember sitting there with the dying guy in my arms and thinking 'and I actually thought we were going to get out of there alive... how stupid...'. It was that genuine feeling of loss and hopelessness.

    This thread:
Writing and remembering scary stuff when Mozilla Thunderbird beeps because of new mail. A cat or something ran in front of our garage triggering the motion sensor controlled lights.

Reminds me of how I first got Opera 9 where the "file transfer finished" shows up in a sloooooowly appearing window in the corner of the screen. For some reason, seeing it for the first few times freaked me out big time. happy.gif

    Hi everyone. smile.gif
(my first post after over a week of lurking).

I personally have played the series in the slightly wrong order. I have finished 5DAS (big thanks to my bf for introducing me to it) in the middle of the night and rushed to download 7DAS. But as soon as I saw it was taking place in space, I lost heart, never being fond of space games (enough said, completed most of Sierra's old adventures, except the Space Quest series).

Then I kind of forgot about the series (shame on me), until I was introduced to TN (thanks bf again). After that, I got around to 7DAS and 6DAS. Been replaying a few times, and then SEs...

Anyway, sorry for rambling away. The games are simply too good not to ramble about them.

    So, scary moments.

During first playing of 5DAS, I think it was everything - the bathroom skeleton, the nightmares, the creaking, doors and footsteps (especially when I knew for a fact there was NO ONE to make those sounds), all chars accounted for one way or another... At later replaying, it was the atmosphere (sounds, music).

In 7DAS - something I haven't read here before. Just after the crew meeting from which Serena is already absent and before you see her ghost (?) for the first time, if you try to save, you are told "Sorry, not now." Now that freaked me out BIG TIME.
As for being chased, I found the Barry chases scarier than the Welder, at least at first playing. At second replay I had the early warnings already, but they served to scare me more, since instead of hoping I might not get attacked in the room, I KNEW for a fact that I would. And the same thing happened to be as described somewhere above - just left the captain's room, got warning, got frozen on the spot and subsequently stabbed in the back.
Also, on second replay found my heart beating like crazy during the 'cross cargo bay quickly, enter airlock, close inner door, change, open outer door' part. Was definitely more scared the second time, because the first time I played, I was touched by the musical score and William's death and got the typical last-surviving-character jaw-squared determination to finish the Welder off.

TN, now... That was scary no matter how many times I replayed it. Mostly because the main feel of it could be summarized with Pratchett's quote: "Welcome to fear [...]. It's hope, turned inside out. You know it can't go wrong, you're sure it can't go wrong... But it might."
The actual getting-killed part with the Tall Man did not scare me much, since in those cases I usually end up dying the first time and then switching in the calculating mode - okay, the guy's coming at me, can't move, can't scream, what CAN I do? (was the same in the Jimmy the Welder scene in 5DAS).
EDIT: The hallucinations were extremely freaky, of course. Especially the basement and becoming the Welder for a few seconds.

In 6DAS, the hallway fluctuating madly while Janine was walking about with the knife was pretty disturbing. As well as the breathing sounds in the manor. But that game scared me less than it did make me feel really pained for Trilby. At first I didn't know about the clones, and had the 'can't die' thought. I was watching Trilby in the cloning room, listening to his reasonable speeches and found my heart completely breaking. And of all the clones I have seen killed, I have felt the most sorry for the one I 'got to know' a little. Then the first and second guards.
Oh, and banging on Janine's door while the Tall Man was advancing at me was pretty scary too, even though it was not a playable sequence. Frankly, I had expected it to become playable at the least fortunate moment and had simply no idea how I was going to get out of this mess. And having the Welder stab you a few times while talking on the phone made me jump.

Oooookay, that was a pretty long first post. blushing.gif
