The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou Offbeat comedy fun for all!

The film is about the odd relationships between some washed up oceanographers, but more than that's its just good dramatic humorous fun. Even with two deaths in the movie it still isn't a downer somehow, and moreover it comes off as being sincere.
There's also an unexplainable action element in it. For no apparent reason every member of the quirky crew get pistols, except the interns who have to share one. The animation is also a very interesting touch, as is the sound track which consists of American rock songs translated unexplainably into portuguese.
If you only rent one movie this week, make it The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou.

Yes, they were all David Bowie songs sung by Seu Jorge in the movie.

Odd to see him doing a movie he didn't write.
It's tough for me to decide between Bottle Rocker and Tennenbaums as to which is my favorite. Both so good.

I'm also a huge fan of his work. I think die hard Anderson fans all feel that LIfe Aquatic was his 4th best movie.
Things that bugged me
1)Owen Wilson's character was a bit shallow and exteremly not funny. The fake southern accent did not help either.
2)Anderson did not play up the intern's working for free bit. I think there should have been more scenes with Murray giving them piles of work.
3)More obviously stagged (past) Zissou shows, shown on a projector.
4)More goldblum and murray interaction. Much more compitition between them.
5)less Owen wilson and his love interest
Overall it had some great scenes but something about it felt too serious. Too much brooding going on.
Wes' strongest work to date is still RUSHMORE, imo. That movie resparked Murray's carreer. It showe his dead pan humour side (which was always in his flicks but never placed on center stage, just in the background). Thanks to RUSHMORE, Murray was picked for Lost in Translation. The kid who played MAX FISCHER was Sofia Ford Coppola's cousin, so you know she saw the movie, and liked it. Because that dead pan brooding character Bill fronted in RUSHMORE was also in LOST IN TRANSLATION.
Tannenbaums and Bottlerocket are also brilliant.

That song was perfect for the moment. Another one of Anderson's brilliant skills is well placed songs in scenes.
The Kinks song playing in the back while Murray was tossing golf balls in to his pool was brillant (rushmore)
