I'd convince the best card player in the rebel alliance to play the best Imperial in a secret strategem to overextend the Imperial treasury and eventually mortgage the Death Star. Then I'd get the best pilot to enter it into drag races and I'd bet the bank on them. I hear that thing could haul.
How would you have gone about more successfully toppling the Empire? How would you have gone about more successfully toppling the Empire?

I wouldn't topple the Empire. I'd take it over from the inside. Seriously, apart from Vader and the Emperor, the majority of the military is run by incompetants. I mean what kind of idiot gets to be an admiral or whatever if he doesn't know how detection systems and hyperspace work as well as Darth Vader, a schizophrenic cultist who is obsessed with being able to do everything himself?
Not only that, people get promoted simply because their boss dies. A few workarounds, and you and your crew could be Moffin' in style. Far away from Vader, because that's just dumb. While the two bigwigs focus all their resources and Force abilities on wiping out a handful of disorganized rebels, I'd just build up support on the core planets nobody talks about but produce the stuff you need to build star destroyers with.
What kind of leader hangs around on an incomplete, immobile space station with his right-hand man instead of actually running things? A lousy one.
While Vader and Palpatine are relatively kickass in person, they can only rule what they touch. Once in space, they become sitting ducks no better than anyone else. Let them hang around on Hoth and tyrannize the Wampas. When I get around to it, I'll just Death Star whatever planet I strand them on.

If I remember correctly, Vader gave Luke a chance to join him and destroy the emperor. What a fool he didnt take it, would have cost much less in the rebel war effort.
